Dexapen Injection is a steroid medicine. It is used to reduce severe inflammations in the joints like in the case of rheumatoid arthritis, a severe case of asthma and treat many conditions of skin al
lergies, eye conditions and is also used in post-surgery care. It contains dexamethasone as its active ingredient. This medicine acts by reducing the formation of inflammation-causing substances in the body. It is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic. Do not self inject. You should not stop taking this Injection suddenly as it may worsen the disease condition.

Uses
- Dexapen Injection is used to manage severe inflammations of joints and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.
 - It is given after surgery to avoid any sudden complications known as post-operative shock.
 - It is used to treat various allergies associated with the skin (eczema, erythroderma) and lung disorders (asthma attack).
 - It is also used in cancer therapy to reduce some specific symptoms and side effects to improve the quality of life.
 
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to dexamethasone or any other ingredient of Dexapen Injection.
 - If you have a bacterial infection of the blood, fungal infections, infection at joints due to TB or Gonorrhoea.
 - If you have any infection at the injection site.
 - Dexapen Injection should not be used for any infection spread throughout the body.

- You are undergoing surgery or need a vaccination.
 - You experience swelling in the tongue, rash and redness on the skin and narrowed airways.
 - You experience a sudden rise in pain, swelling at the site of injection and fever.
 - You have severe liver, kidney and heart-related disorders.
 - You may experience psychiatric disturbance, such as feeling low, anxiety, etc.
 - You have high blood pressure, head injury, migraine issue, seizures and fits.
 - You have tuberculosis infection without symptoms.
 - You have blood cancer or diabetes.
 - You are prone to an intestinal infection, amoebiasis characterised by diarrhoea.
 - You experience visual disturbances or glaucoma.
 - You have ulcers, bone and muscle-related disorder.
 - This injection if taken for long term treatment, can interfere with the growth and hormonal imbalance.
 - Dexapen Injection should be used carefully in the elderly and premature babies.

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use
- Dexapen Injection will be given in the hospital by your doctor or nurse. Do not self-inject this medicine.
 - Follow any instructions suggested by the doctor or nurse during the procedure or for aftercare.
 
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Dexapen Injection works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
 - Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
 - Medicines like Rifampicin (antibiotic), Phenytoin, and Carbamazepine (used for epilepsy and seizures), Ephedrine, and Primidone can reduce the effect of Dexapen Injection.
 - It can reduce the glucose-lowering effect of insulin and blood pressure-lowering effect of medicines used for high blood pressure and certain medicines used for heart failure such as Digoxin.
 - The effect of coumarin, a blood thinner is reduced when used concomitantly with Dexapen and there is a risk of bleeding. Continuous monitoring is recommended.
 
Storage and disposal
- Store Dexapen Injection in the original package to protect it from light.
 - Do not store above 25°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
 - The product should be used immediately after dilution.
 - Keep it away from children and pets.
 - Do not use Dexapen Injection if you notice the contents are of a different coloured in any way or if particles are present.
