Medical Description
Daxotel injection is an anticancer medication used to treat certain types of breast cancer, prostate cancer, gastric cancer, and head and neck cancer. It may be administered alone or in combination with other anticancer medications. This injection contains docetaxel. Daxotel injection will be administered by a healthcare professional in a medical setting.
Daxotel injection can impact fertility in both men and women. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during and after treatment as advised by their doctor. Men should also use contraception and consider sperm preservation before treatment. Docetaxel can harm a developing fetus, so it should not be used during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed by a specialist after assessment of the risks. Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment due to potential risks to the infant.
Uses
- Treatment of breast cancer (early and metastatic).
- Treatment of small cell lung cancer.
- Treatment of hormone refractory metastatic prostate cancer.
- Treatment of advanced gastric (stomach) adenocarcinoma.
- Treatment of locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Contraindications
- You are allergic to docetaxel or any of its ingredients.
- You have a low white blood cell count; if you are unsure, ask your doctor.
- You have a history of liver disease.
- Other contraindications may apply depending on the medicines used in combination with docetaxel.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding require special precautions and should be discussed with your doctor.
Side effects
- Low white blood cell count (neutropenia), significantly increasing the risk of severe infections
- Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath
- Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), leading to easy bruising or bleeding
- Hair loss (alopecia)
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mouth sores (stomatitis)
- Fatigue, asthenia (weakness), and fluid retention (edema)
- Changes in sense of taste (dysgeusia)
- Nail changes (discoloration or loosening of nails)
- Peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling, or pain in the hands and feet)
- Muscle and joint pain (myalgia and arthralgia)
- Skin reactions (rash or redness)
- Severe, life-threatening neutropenic fever and serious infections (such as sepsis or pneumonia)
- Severe hypersensitivity reactions (including sudden rash, low blood pressure, or breathing difficulties)
- Severe fluid retention (pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, or severe generalized swelling)
- Acute respiratory distress or interstitial lung disease
- Severe skin reactions (such as toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

- You suffer from liver disease or have abnormal liver function tests.
- You have a low neutrophil count.
- You are already on other anti-cancer medications.
- You experience abnormal swelling due to excess fluid accumulation in the body, pain, tingling, or burning in the hands and feet, skin rashes, etc., after taking the injection.
- Tell your doctor if you have previously experienced a severe allergic reaction to docetaxel
