Cytodrox 500mg Strip Of 10 Capsules
Description
Cytodrox Capsule is an oral chemotherapy medication primarily used in the treatment of specific types of cancers, such as chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), cervical cancer, and certain types of head and neck cancers. Its active ingredient, hydroxyurea, is a cytotoxic agent that works by interfering with the synthesis of DNA in rapidly dividing cells, including malignant cancer cells. By inhibiting the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase, hydroxyurea halts the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, which are the building blocks required for DNA synthesis. This mechanism disrupts the cell cycle, effectively slowing or stopping the growth and multiplication of cancer cells, thereby controlling the progression of the disease.
Cytodrox is a prescription-only medication and should be used strictly under the supervision of a qualified oncologist or physician experienced in chemotherapy. The dosage and duration of therapy are carefully determined based on the type of cancer being treated, the patient's body surface area, clinical condition, blood counts, and response to therapy. Because of its potent effects on bone marrow, close monitoring of blood parameters such as haemoglobin, white blood cell count, and platelets is essential during treatment. Any signs of bone marrow suppression, such as unusual bruising, fatigue, or infections, must be promptly reported to the physician.
Due to its potential teratogenic effects, Cytodrox is contraindicated in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary, and effective contraception is recommended during treatment and for a period afterward. Breastfeeding should also be avoided during therapy, as hydroxyurea is excreted in breast milk and may pose harm to the infant. Patients with renal or hepatic impairment require careful dose adjustment and frequent monitoring due to altered drug metabolism and clearance. The drug should also be used with caution in individuals with a history of gout, leg ulcers, or previous chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Cytodrox can cause a variety of side effects, ranging from mild gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort, to more serious effects like stomatitis, bone marrow suppression, and skin reactions. Rare but serious complications such as severe anaemia, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia may occur, especially if the drug is not properly dosed or monitored.
