Medical Description

Cremalax Tablet contains sodium picosulphate as its active medicine. It is a long-acting laxative that is used for the treatment of constipation. This medicine should not be taken very frequently. It is suitable for occasional use for the relief of constipation when other medicines and dietary remedies fail to work. Cremalax Tablet does not help in weight loss programmes. Its regular use may cause serious health problems and electrolyte imbalances.

Uses

Cremalax Tablet is used for short-term treatment of occasional constipation.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to sodium picosulphate or any ingredient of Cremalax Tablet.
  • If you are suffering from dehydration.
  • If you suffer from any disease which causes obstruction or problem in bowel movement (ileus).
  • If you suffer from appendicitis.
  • If you have an ulcer in your gut or any other condition leading to inflammation of gut lining.
  • If you suffer from intestinal perforation or bleeding.
  • If you experience severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting.
  • If you have been diagnosed with liver failure.

Overdose

If you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately. Overdose may lead to dehydration, abdominal cramps, imbalance of salts in your body which can cause serious problems.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking any dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.

How Does It Work?

Cremalax Tablet is a laxative medicine that works in two ways. Firstly, it stimulates your gut movements and urges to defecate. Secondarily, it retains water and electrolytes in the gut, which helps in the bulk formation and softening of the stool which in turn facilitates defecation.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of Cremalax Tablet with steroid medicines like prednisolone, hydrocortisone may cause electrolyte imbalance.
  • It should be given judiciously to patients taking lithium or digoxin.
  • It should be given with caution in patients taking medicines for diabetes, fits (epilepsy), antibiotics and medicines for mental and emotional problems.
  • Discuss with your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking currently to avoid interactions.

Cremalax Tablet should not be taken regularly for more than 5 days in a go. Consult a doctor and get proper treatment if you suffer from constipation regularly.

You should not use a Cremalax Tablet for weight loss. It may lead to dehydration, salt imbalance and serious health issues if taken regularly for a long period. It will not help you in weight loss.
