Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol unless your doctor says it is safe, because it can worsen drowsiness and dizziness.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the oral drops with the supplied dropper or another suitable measuring device, and use only the amount advised by your doctor or stated on the label. Do not use a household spoon. Avoid driving until you know how the medicine affects you.

Storage and disposal

Keep the bottle tightly closed in its original pack, away from heat and direct light. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not use the drops after expiry or if the liquid has changed appearance. Ask a pharmacist about safe disposal.

Quick Tips

  • Use the supplied measuring device for the oral drops.
  • Do not combine this product with another antihistamine unless advised.
  • Avoid driving if you feel sleepy or dizzy.
  • Tell your doctor if nasal symptoms continue or worsen.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much chlorpheniramine may cause marked sleepiness, agitation, blurred vision, or difficulty passing urine. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of histamine, a substance involved in allergic symptoms. This can reduce sneezing, runny nose, and irritation in the nose. Its drying effect can also make mucus less watery.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way chlorpheniramine works or increase unwanted effects. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you use. In particular, mention sleeping medicines, medicines for anxiety, other antihistamines, medicines for high blood pressure, and any monoamine oxidase inhibitor.

Interactions with food items

Alcohol can increase drowsiness and dizziness with chlorpheniramine, so ask your doctor whether it should be avoided. No other specific food interaction is established from the available product information.
