Calcigen D3 Capsule
Description
Calcigen D3 Capsule is a therapeutic and nutritional supplement that contains cholecalciferol, commonly known as Vitamin D3. It is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays an indispensable role in maintaining calcium and phosphate homeostasis in the human body. Adequate levels of Vitamin D3 are essential for proper growth, development, and mineralisation of bones and teeth, as well as for the functioning of muscles, the cardiovascular system, and the immune system.
When taken orally, cholecalciferol undergoes a two-step activation process in the body. It is first metabolised in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (calcidiol), which serves as the major circulating form and an indicator of Vitamin D status. This intermediate is then further hydroxylated in the kidneys to form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol), the biologically active hormone. Calcitriol acts by binding to specific Vitamin D receptors located in various tissues, particularly in the intestines, kidneys, and bones. Its primary physiological effect is to enhance the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, reduce renal calcium excretion, and promote bone mineralisation and remodelling. It also regulates parathyroid hormone secretion, thereby preventing secondary hyperparathyroidism and maintaining stable serum calcium concentrations.
Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a spectrum of disorders, including rickets in children, osteomalacia in adults, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, hypocalcemia, and increased fracture risk. Modern lifestyles with reduced outdoor activity, heavy use of sunscreens, darker skin pigmentation, advanced age, and certain medical conditions such as chronic kidney disease, malabsorption syndromes, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease contribute to widespread deficiency. Calcigen D3 Capsule serves as an effective means of restoring and maintaining optimal Vitamin D levels in such individuals.
Calcigen D3 Capsule may cause mild side effects like constipation, increased blood calcium or urine calcium levels, vomiting, and nausea, which typically resolve on their own. Consult your doctor if side effects persist or if you have an allergy to it. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should seek medical advice before use, as Calcigen D3 Capsule can pass into breast milk. Caution is advised for those with hypercalcemia, renal impairment, heart diseases, kidney stones, or hypervitaminosis D.
