Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Cardace Am Tablet contains a combination of ramipril and amlodipine as active substances.
- Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor (angiotensin converting enzyme). ACE is responsible for the constriction of the blood vessels and the increase in blood pressure. Blocking the action of ACE by ramipril helps to lower blood pressure.
- Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that stops calcium from moving into the blood vessel wall. This prevents the blood vessels from tightening and increasing blood pressure.

- Some medicines can affect the way Cardace Am Tablet works, or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Inform your doctor about all the medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
- The use of Cardace Am Tablet with other medicines for lowering blood pressure (angiotensin II receptor blockers like losartan and aliskiren) may cause an increased number of side effects like low blood pressure and high blood potassium levels.
- The use of this medicine with sacubitril/valsartan is contraindicated as this increases the risk of
- swelling under the skin.
- When Cardace Am Tablet is used with racecadotril (used for treating diarrhoea), vildagliptin (used for treating diabetes), or mTOR inhibitors like sirolimus (used to prevent organ rejection after transplant), it may increase the risk of swelling under the skin (angioedema).

- Medicines that constrict the blood vessels like isoproterenol, dobutamine, dopamine, and adrenaline and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen may reduce the blood pressure lowering effect of Cardace Am Tablet.
- Medicines such as allopurinol (used for treating gout), immunosuppressants like tacrolimus (used to prevent organ rejection after transplant), corticosteroids (used to reduce inflammation), procainamide (used to treat abnormal/irregular heart rhythm), and medicines that slow/stop the growth of cells (cytostatics) when used together with Cardace Am Tablet may cause changes in the number of blood cells in the body.
- Lithium used for the treatment of mental disorders when used with this medicine may reduce the removal of lithium from the body.
- The use of Cardace Am Tablet with medicines used for the treatment of diabetes/insulin may increase the risk of low blood sugar.
- Caution should be exercised when this medicine is given along with medicines that can increase the blood potassium levels like potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (used to treat bacterial infections), potassium supplements, or potassium-containing salt substitutes.
- Cardace Am Tablet when used together with heparin (blood thinner), may increase the risk of high blood potassium levels.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines to treat HIV (ritonavir, indinavir), fungal infections (clotrimazole, ketoconazole), bacterial infections (erythromycin), high blood pressure and heart-related chest pain (verapamil), tuberculosis (rifampicin), depression (Hypericum perforatum), and muscle spasms (dantrolene).
