Medical Description
Ascodex DX syrup is used for the treatment of dry cough and irritation in the throat. It contains a combination of ammonium chloride, bromhexine, and dextromethorphan as active substances. Ascodex DX syrup works by suppressing the cough center in the brain. It also helps to loosen the phlegm and mucous from the respiratory pathway and makes it easier to cough out. Take this medicine in the exact dose and duration as recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Shake the bottle well before use. Use a measuring cup, spoon, or dropper for the exact quantity. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own. Before taking Ascodex DX syrup, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, breastfeeding, and about your complete medical history. Ascodex DX syrup should not be used in children less than 6 years of age.

Contraindications
- If you are allergic to ammonium chloride, bromhexine, and dextromethorphan, or any other ingredient of Ascodex DX syrup.
- If you have or had respiratory diseases.
- If you are taking medicines called monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors like selegiline/phenelzine. If you are not sure what these medicines are, please confirm with your doctor.

How Does It Work?
- Ascodex DX syrup contains ammonium chloride, bromhexine, and dextromethorphan.
- Ammonium chloride is an expectorant that produces mild irritation of the mucous lining of the stomach which increases the water content in the respiratory tract, relieving dryness and soreness of the respiratory passage.
- Bromhexine is a mucolytic agent which helps in relieving cough by thinning and loosening the mucus from the airways and makes it easier to cough out.
- Dextromethorphan acts on the cough center of the brain responsible for the cough.
