Medical Description

Anxipan is a prescription medicine indicated for patients with anxiety and acidity. Anxiety refers to persistent fear, worry and restlessness in a routine that disrupts everyday life. Acidity is the feeling of uneasiness and inability to digest food properly. Anxipan comprises two salts, Amitriptyline and Pantoprazole. Amitriptyline is a type of Tricyclic Antidepressant and works by controlling the balance of certain chemicals in the brain. Pantoprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) and works by decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach and relieving indigestion related issues. Common side effects of Anxipan are nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence, weight gain and headache. The medicine is taken with a doctor’s recommendation and should not be discontinued without his advice.

Directions for Use

  • Anxipan Capsule should be consumed only with the doctor’s recommendation. Anxipan is generally taken for a longer time regularly.
  • Anxipan can be taken with or without food. Always try to maintain and stick to the schedule. Have an Anxipan capsule at the same time every day.
  • Do not discontinue taking Anxipan without talking to your doctor.
  • Anxipan capsule has to be swallowed whole orally with a glass of water. The capsule cannot be distorted in any form and should not be crushed or broken.

Storage and disposal

Store Anxipan capsules at room temperature and far away from any direct heat or light source. Always avoid keeping medicines like Anxipan in direct sunlight. The medicine should not be kept in a refrigerator. Keep such medicines away from the reach of children and pets at home.

Overdose

Do not take Anxipan more than the prescribed dose. Overdose can exhibit severe side effects. Seek immediate help in case of overdose. Do not share the capsule with someone you feel has the same symptoms. This can lead to overdose. This medicine can only be taken with a doctor's recommendation. Do not give it to someone you feel has the same symptoms; it can lead to overdose.

Missed a Dose

If you happen to miss a dose, take the capsule as soon as you remember. But if it is almost the time for the next dose, then don’t take Anxipan and continue with the usual next dosage. Consider setting the alarm if you keep missing the dose to remind yourself on time. It is of utmost importance to be regular with Anxipan. Do not discontinue Anxipan without consulting the doctor.

How Does It Work?

Anxipan has two active ingredients, namely Amitriptyline and Pantoprazole. Amitriptyline is a type of Tricyclic Antidepressant and works by regulating certain chemicals in the brain. It helps to reinforce the feeling of well being. Pantoprazole is a type of Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) and helps control the amount of acid in the stomach that further relieves acidity and indigestion.

  • MAO Inhibitors like selegiline- One needs to inform the doctor if taking this medication causes severe side effects.
  • Blood thinners- can cause bleeding/ bruises.
  • You need to inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines such as:
  • Anticholinergic medicines like belladonna can increase drowsiness
  • Anticonvulsants, Anti-anxiety medicines like alprazolam and Anti-allergic medicines like cetirizine can increase the potential of drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Opioid analgesic and Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) also increase the potential of side effects if taken with Anxipan.
  • Antifungal medicines like fluconazole can increase the risk of toxicity.
  • Cimetidine interferes with the metabolism and the mechanism to get rid of Anxipan.

Interactions with food items

  • Food does not interfere with absorption of Anxipan Capsule, and hence it can be taken with or without food.

There is no special diet required while taking Anxipan. Just try to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet. Include foods rich in omega fatty acids like fish, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables. Try to keep yourself active by exercising for some time regularly.
