Serratiopeptidase

Molecule Description

Serratiopeptidase is a proteolytic enzyme used to treat pain and inflammation. It is also called Serrapeptase.

Uses of Serratiopeptidase

  • Bony and joint pain (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia)
  • Headache (migraine, tension headache)
  • Inflammation of sinuses, pharynx and sinuses
  • Ear infections (otitis media)
  • Blood clot
  • Postoperative wound or traumatic swelling
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • After dental extraction
  • Chronic airway diseases (bronchitis)
  • Ulcer and inflammation in the colon (ulcerative colitis)
  • Blood clot (thrombophlebitis)
  • Fibrocystic breast disease

Contraindications of Serratiopeptidase

  • Bleeding disorders
  • Liver disorders
  • Kidney damage
  • Swelling due to the abscess

Side effects of Serratiopeptidase

Common side effects of this drug are:

  • Allergic reactions- rash, fever
  • Stomach ache
  • Bleeding in patients of bleeding disorders
  • Nausea

It causes a breakdown of insoluble protein byproduct of blood coagulation known as fibrin.
