Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Norethisterone is used for the treatment of menstrual and gynaecological disorders such as the absence of menstrual periods, delayed periods, abnormal bleeding and for hormone replacement therapy.

Norethisterone is available in the form of tablet, solution for injection, granule.

Normally, your period starts when your body’s progesterone levels drop. By taking norethisterone, you keep these hormone levels high, which stops the lining of your womb from shedding. Your period will usually start 2-3 days after you stop taking the tablets.

Norethisterone, though a hormone, isn't considered reliable for birth control when delaying periods. Use non-hormonal methods like condoms to prevent pregnancy.

Common side effects may include headache, nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, and mood changes. Some women might also experience irregular spotting or breakthrough bleeding. These side effects are generally mild and often resolve over time.

Serious side effects are uncommon but can happen. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice signs of a blood clot, such as sudden and severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, a sudden severe headache, or swelling and redness in an arm or leg.
