Molecule Description
Miglitol medicine is a Glucosidase inhibitor used along with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in people with Type 2 diabetes in adults. High blood sugar can cause kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs and sexual function problems.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Miglitol acts by blocking the activity of Glucosidase enzyme present in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby slows down the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates from foods. This effect helps to lessen your blood sugar that is raised after a meal.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Charcoal products
- Digestive enzyme products (such as Amylase, Pancreatin)
- Pramlintide
- Beta-blocker (like Metoprolol, Propranolol, glaucoma eye drops such as Timolol)

- Excess sugar, packed food, oily food should avoid
- Intake of vegetables, fruits and proteins can have significant benefits for people with diabetes
Dosage
Overdose
Overdose does not result in hypoglycemia but it may result in transient increases in flatulence, diarrhea and abdominal discomfort.
Missed a Dose
Take medicine as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine.
