Molecule Description

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen is used for active immunization against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections caused by all known subtypes. It is suitable for use in neonates, infants, children, and adolescents up to 15 years of age who are not yet immune. Immunization with Hepatitis B Surface Antigen is expected to help prevent hepatitis D, as hepatitis D (caused by the delta agent) cannot occur without the presence of a hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B Surface Antigen must be administered by a healthcare professional. To ensure effectiveness, all doses are required. It may cause injection site reactions like redness, swelling, pain, or fever in some individuals. If these occur, inform your doctor for possible relief methods. Disclose any medical conditions and medications to your doctor before vaccination. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should seek medical advice before getting the vaccine.

Uses

  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen is indicated for active immunization against Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection in individuals of all ages who are considered at risk of exposure to HBV.
  • Immunization with Hepatitis B Surface Antigen is also expected to prevent hepatitis D infection, as it does not occur without hepatitis B.

  • You experienced a rare anaphylactic reaction after vaccination; appropriate medical treatment will be readily available.

  • You are obese, a smoker, or have certain chronic underlying diseases.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen works by stimulating the body's immune system to produce antibodies against the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). It contains purified HBsAg, which, when administered, triggers an immune response. This response leads to the development of protective anti-HBs antibodies that help prevent infection by neutralizing the hepatitis B virus upon exposure.
