Molecule Description
Cyclandelate belongs to a class of medicines known as ‘Vasodilators.’ This medicine helps relax blood vessels and improves blood flow.
Uses
- As supportive medicine for the treatment of conditions associated with poor blood flow, such as:
- Severe pain in the legs, especially on activity (intermittent claudication)
- Hardening and narrowing of large arteries supplying blood to the stomach (abdominal aorta) or smaller arteries supplying blood to the hands, legs (arteriosclerosis obliterans)
- Any conditions causing poor blood flow to the brain (cerebrovascular diseases)
- Blood clots in veins obstructing the blood flow (thrombophlebitis)
- Discoloration of fingers and toes due to poor blood flow (Raynaud’s disease)
Contraindications
When should one not use Cyclandelate
- Allergy to Cyclandelate or any of its components
- Severe heart or brain diseases associated with impaired blood flow
- Bleeding disorders
Side effects
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Stomach upset, gas in the stomach, heartburn (due to reflux of stomach acid)
- Skin redness (flushing), weakness, faster heart rate
- Any serious allergic reaction like swelling of hands, face, or mouth, abnormal voice changes, trouble breathing or swallowing, rashes, itching, blisters of skin (serious, but rare)

Talk to your doctor if
- Serious heart diseases (recent or at risk for heart attack)
- Any conditions (hardened or narrowed arteries) causing impaired blood flow to legs, brain or any blood related or bleeding disorders
- Brain stroke (due to ruptured blood vessels in the brain)
- Increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Cyclandelate acts by blocking the calcium inflow into the walls (muscles) of blood vessels and clot formation. Calcium causes contraction and clumping of platelets (clot-forming blood cells), decreased calcium will relax the arteries and veins, thus improving the blood flow.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Avoid:
- Tizanidine (short-acting muscle relaxant)
- Use with caution:
- Medicines for high blood pressure
- Medicines for heart disease
- Anti-clot medicines (Warfarin etc.)
- Inform the doctor about all the medicines you are using (including prescription medicines, non-prescription medicines, and herbal products)
Interactions with food items
It is advised to take the Cyclandelate with food.
Dietary Restrictions
Take Cyclandelate with food or substances that reduce acidity of the stomach (antacids such as magnesium or aluminum).
Dosage
Overdose
Accidental overdose of Cyclandelate might not be harmful. Consult the doctor in the presence of symptoms of overdose, such as headache, dizziness, weakness or fainting, etc.
Missed a Dose
- If you missed any dose, take it as early as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dose schedule. As Cyclandelate is given multiple times in a day, be careful not to take two dosages close to each other. Do not take a higher or a double dose of the medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
