Uses
- Livogen Z captab is used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anaemia.
- Supplies iron, folic acid and zinc to support the formation of haemoglobin and of healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
- Helps correct the tiredness, weakness, breathlessness on exertion, dizziness, pale skin, and brittle nails that can accompany iron and folate deficiency.
- Prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when the body's requirement for both is considerably higher.
- Iron and folate replacement in heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, after surgery or blood loss, and in conditions that reduce the absorption of nutrients from food.
- The folic acid in Livogen Z captab also supports the normal development of the baby's brain and spinal cord in early pregnancy.
- The zinc in Livogen Z captab contributes to normal tissue repair, wound healing and immune function.
Directions for Use
- Take Livogen Z captab exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is a prescription product, so do not start or stop it on your own.
- Swallow the captab whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew it.
- Iron is absorbed best on an empty stomach, about an hour before a meal. If it upsets your stomach, take it with a little food instead and tell your doctor.
- Leave at least two hours between Livogen Z captab and tea, coffee, milk, curd, cheese, calcium supplements or antacids, as all of these reduce iron absorption.
- Taking it with a source of vitamin C, such as a citrus fruit or a glass of lemon water, helps the body take up the iron.
- Keep a gap of at least two hours between Livogen Z captab and antibiotics such as doxycycline, ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin, and at least four hours from a thyroid tablet such as levothyroxine.
- Take it at the same time each day and complete the full course your doctor advises, because haemoglobin and iron stores recover over several weeks to months.
- Do not take another iron, folic acid or zinc supplement alongside Livogen Z captab unless your doctor has told you to, as the amounts add up.
Quick Tips
- Treating anaemia means finding out why it happened. Iron deficiency in an adult usually has an underlying cause, so ask your doctor what is being done to identify it.
- Dark or black stools are expected with any iron supplement and are harmless. Tell your doctor if you also have stomach pain, vomiting or blood in the stool.
- Constipation, nausea, mild stomach upset or a metallic taste can occur. Drinking more water and eating more fibre usually helps; tell your doctor if it persists.
- Keep Livogen Z captab well out of the reach of children. Accidental iron overdose is dangerous in young children.
- You may start to feel less tired within a few weeks, but keep taking it for the full duration advised, so that your iron stores are replaced and not just your haemoglobin.
- Keep your follow-up blood tests, as your doctor will want to see your haemoglobin and ferritin responding before deciding how much longer you need to continue.
- Tell your doctor before starting if you have thalassaemia, haemochromatosis or any other condition causing iron overload, or if you have had repeated blood transfusions.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Include iron-rich and folate-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, dates, jaggery, pulses, nuts, eggs and meat alongside the supplement.
- Store the strip in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
