Zosert 100mg Tablet is a prescription medication that is used for treating various mental conditions like Major depressive disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), panic disorders (sudden or unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry) and other mental illnesses. It is an antidepressant class of medicine.
Depression is a mental condition that causes persistent feelings of sadness, mood and behaviour changes, anger, loneliness etc. In obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), patients experience repeated unwanted thoughts or sensations (obsessions) or the urge to do something over and over again (compulsions).
Zosert 100mg Tablet contains sertraline as its active ingredient. Sertraline increases the amount of certain chemical messenger(serotonin) in the brain. This medicine relaxes the abnormally excitable nerves in the brain and improves the patient’s mood and behaviour.
Do not change the Zosert 100mg Tablet dosage or stop using it abruptly without consulting your doctor. It may lead to unwanted withdrawal symptoms, such as restlessness, palpitations, sleep disturbances, anxiety, etc.
Uses
- According to CDSCO & USFDA, the Zosert 100mg Tablet is used in:
- Treatment of Major depressive disorder.
- Treatment of Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
- Treatment of Panic disorder.
- Treatment of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Treatment of Social anxiety disorder (SAD).
- Treatment of Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any component of the Zosert Tablet.
- If you are already taking other antidepressant medicine.
- If you are pregnant.
- If you are a breastfeeding mother.
- If you have kidney-related conditions.
- If you have liver-related diseases.

Talk to your doctor if
- You have any allergic reactions after taking Zosert Tablet.
- You have any suicidal or self-harming thoughts.
- You have angle-closure glaucoma, an eye disorder. This medicine can increase fluid pressure in the eye.
- You have a history of kidney or liver disease; this medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You have a seizure (fits). This medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You have a bleeding disorder. This medicine may need a dose adjustment.
- You are using any medications that cause sedation.
- You are using any herbal medicines or other health supplements, as they can interfere with this medicine.
- You have a history of alcohol or medicine addictions.
- You experience worsening of your symptoms or suicidal behaviour.
Directions for Use
- Take Zosert Tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Take it at the same time regularly.
- Take the medicine as a whole with a full glass of water. Do not break the tablet or chew this medicine.
- You can take the Zosert Tablet before or after consuming food or as prescribed by your doctor.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage as it can lead to overdose.
- Do not take Zosert Tablet with other medications without informing your doctor.
- Do not stop using it abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms.
Storage and disposal
Store Zosert Tablet at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Keep the medication away from children and pet animals in a closed or locked cabinet. Do not remove the medicine from its packing and store it within its original packaging.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or throw them into the dustbin unless instructed to do so. Medication disposed of in this manner may pollute or contaminate the environment. Properly dispose of this product when it is expired or no longer required.

Overdose
Zosert Tablet overdose can cause serotonin syndrome (symptoms include agitation, hallucinations, fast heart rate, dizziness, muscle tremor, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. If you overdose on this medicine and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.
Missed a Dose
If you've missed a dose of the Zosert Tablet, take it as soon as possible. If you remember missing a dose, and if it's time to take the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Speak with your doctor if there are any concerns about it. Do not take both doses at once as it can lead to overdose.

How Does It Work?
Zosert 100mg Tablet contains Sertraline 100mg, an antidepressant. It works by increasing the release of serotonin and balancing its levels in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical messenger responsible for improving mood, behaviour, cognitive abilities and memory.
Sertraline also has minimal effects on other neurotransmitters (chemical messengers) such as dopamine and nor-adrenaline. This mechanism of action of sertraline makes it highly efficacious in the treatment of various psychiatric disorders.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Antipsychotics - Increase the risk of QTc prolongation (heart muscles taking more time than normal to recharge) and ventricular arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms).
- Antiplatelet agents (aspirin, heparin, warfarin)- Increases the risk of bleeding.
- Antidepressants- May cause serotonin syndrome, which is potentially life-threatening.
- Anti-seizure medicines- Sertraline may increase phenytoin concentrations.
Interactions with food items
- You can continue with the usual diet as food doesn’t influence the effect of the Zosert Tablet. Avoid consuming this medicine with cola drinks, chocolates and caffeine-containing food items as it can result in serotonin syndrome (high levels of serotonin).
- Speak with your doctor about any supplements or herbal drinks you are currently taking before using this medicine.
