Medical Description

Urtinorm-T tablet is an antibiotic combination used to treat certain bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, including the sinuses, throat, airways or lungs. It contains cefpodoxime proxetil, which stops bacteria from building a protective outer covering, and clavulanic acid, which blocks resistance enzymes made by some bacteria. This allows cefpodoxime to work against susceptible bacteria and clear the infection. Urtinorm-T tablet is swallowed by mouth with or without food exactly as prescribed for an infection diagnosed by a healthcare professional.

If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Cefpodoxime proxetil is changed into an active antibiotic in the body and prevents bacteria from building their protective outer covering. Clavulanic acid blocks enzymes made by some bacteria that would otherwise break down cefpodoxime. This helps cefpodoxime work against susceptible bacteria.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Urtinorm-T tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower absorption of cefpodoxime proxetil; probenecid, used for gout, can raise cefpodoxime levels; blood thinners may need extra monitoring; and other antibiotics or medicines that affect kidney function may increase side-effect risk.

Interactions with food items

Urtinorm-T tablet may be taken with or without food. Taking it with food may be easier if it causes stomach upset, unless your doctor gives different instructions.
