Medical Description
Topisal-3% lotion is used for the treatment of various skin conditions such as eczema, red sores around the nose and mouth (impetigo), skin damage (lesions), and red scaly patches (psoriasis). It contains a combination of clobetasol and salicylic acid as active substances that can soften the hard layer of skin. Clobetasol is a steroid and salicylic acid is an antiseptic. Topisal-3% lotion should only be used externally and must not be used for any other skin conditions without consulting your doctor. Do not use more of this lotion or apply it more often than recommended. The medicine is not meant for use in children less than 12 years of age.

Contraindications
- If you are allergic to clobetasol, salicylic acid, or any other ingredient of Topisal-3% lotion.
- If you are using this lotion to treat infections in your private parts, face, acne, around the mouth, and skin perforations.
- If you have any untreated skin infection or skin thinning problems.
- If you have chickenpox, shingles, warts, or any other wounds and skin infections.

- You have a history of allergic reactions to any other topical medicine or steroid.
- You experience sudden weight gain, purple stretch marks on arms, breasts, or stomach, and thinning of the skin (Cushing's syndrome).
- You should not use this lotion on open wounds or on a large surface area.
- You experience irritation, dryness, and sensitivity on the skin after applying this lotion.
Directions for Use
- Use Topisal-3% lotion as directed by your doctor.
- Clean and dry your hands before and after applying the medicine, unless your hands are the area to be treated.
- For external use only, apply it on a healthy skin surface, free from cuts and wounds.
- Avoid touching the tip of the container to the infected area of the skin.
- Apply a thin layer and rub gently over the affected area.
- If your eyes come in contact with the medicine, immediately rinse the eyes with clean water.

How Does It Work?
- Topisal-3% lotion works by the combined action of its two components - clobetasol and salicylic acid.
- Clobetasol is a steroid that acts by blocking the synthesis of a chemical substance called prostaglandin that is responsible for itching, swelling, and redness.
- Salicylic acid improves the condition of swelling and redness in the skin and helps in shedding the hard skin or dead skin. It also improves the penetration of clobetasol into the skin.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Since Topisal-3% lotion is applied externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines.
- However, you should always consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking antifungal medicines like itraconazole, medicines for treating HIV infection like ritonavir.
- Do not apply any other topical medicine in the area where Topisal-3% lotion is applied.
