Themiset is used for preventing nausea and vomiting related to cancer treatment in adult and paediatric population. The active ingredient in Themiset is palonosetron hydrochloride.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You are suffering from constipation currently or in past
  • You are suffering from subacute intestinal obstruction
  • You are suffering from a heart disease called abnormal heart rhythms (QT prolongation)
  • You are suffering from imbalanced mineral levels like hypokaelmia or hypomagnesemia
  • You are medicines called SSRIs or SNRIs
  • You have rare fructose intolerance
  • You have allergy to palonosetron

Directions for Use

This medicine is used before the administration of chemotherapy and the dosage of Themiset is given only under the supervision of your doctor by the doctor or nurse. The route of injection is intravenous.

Storage and disposal

  • Keep out of the reach of children
  • Keep the medicine vial in carton to protect it from direct heat and sunlight
  • Dispose off the medicine if it changes colour, develops particles or becomes cloudy
  • This single use vial, do not use the any left medicine for the second time
  • Follow medical waste management protocol in the disposal of this medicine

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Themiset blocks the action of a chemical inside the body, the chemical is known as serotonin. Serotonin makes you feeling sick and experience nausea and vomiting. Palonosetron blocks action of serotnin and thereby prevents nausea and vomiting.

  • Venlafaxine, duloxetine: The combination with any of these medicines may lead to serotonin syndrome
  • Fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine: The combination with these medicines may cause adverse events
  • Fluvoxamine, escitalopram, citalopram: The combination with any of these medicines may cause adverse events
  • Chlorpromazine, thioridazine: Concomitant use with any of this medicines may cause heart beat problems
  • Amiodarone, quinidine, nicardipine: The combination with any of these medicines may cause heart beat problems
  • Moxifloxacin, erythromycin: Heart beat abnormalities can be caused when used in combinations with any of these medicines
  • Haloperidol, quetiapine: Concomitant use with any of these medicines may cause heart beat problems
  • Domperidone: The combination with this medicine may lead to problems in heart beat
