Medical Description

Telvas 20mg Tab is an antihypertensive medicine. This medicine prevents the blood vessels from narrowing, and thus lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. This medicine belongs to a group of angiotensin inhibitors known as angiotensin receptor antagonists (ARAs).

Can I take the medicine during pregnancy?
This medicine can be very harmful for the foetus. You should avoid taking it during pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Can I take the medicine while breastfeeding?
Although there is a lack of sufficient information on the effects of this medicine on breastfed infants, it is recommended that you avoid taking it. Breastfeeding mothers should look for other alternatives and consult their doctors.


Can I drive if I have consumed the medicine?
Yes, you can drive after taking this medicine. It doesn't affect your driving ability. But in case you experience dizziness or drowsiness, it's better to avoid driving.


Can I consume alcohol with the medicine?
It is advised not to consume alcohol after taking these tablets. Alcohol may cause a drop in the blood pressure and also increase the side effects of the medicine.

  • You have any history of angioedema (swelling of face, lips, throat)
  • You've had a kidney transplant recently or have a known blockage of the blood vessel leading to your kidneys
  • You suffer from heart failure or life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias

  • You have excessive diarrhoea and vomiting

How Does It Work?

High blood pressure is caused when angiotensin-II binds with its receptor and causes the restriction of blood vessels. The main ingredient in the composition of Telvas 20mg Tab, telmisartan, prevents the binding of angiotensin-II to its receptor and thus, causes the blood vessels to relax.

Directions for Use of Telvas 20mg Tab

This medicine, given in the form of a tablet, is usually prescribed twice a day and can be taken orally with water. However, it must only be taken with a prescription from your doctor.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Telvas 20mg Tab shows interaction with aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • You should avoid taking angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors, lithium, and aliskiren when on this medicine
  • It is suggested that you avoid medicines known to increase potassium levels (e.g. diuretics)
  • Since the medicine shows interactions with many medicines, it is suggested that you report your medications to your doctor who will then decide the dosage accordingly
