Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor before using this medicine. Only a small amount is absorbed through the skin, and your doctor will decide if it is right for you.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

If you are breastfeeding, check with your doctor first. Do not apply it to the breast or nipples, and if it has been used there on medical advice, wash the area well before feeding.

Driving

Driving

This medicine does not usually affect your ability to drive or use machines.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Alcohol is not known to change how this skin medicine works. Speak with your doctor if you have any concerns.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Wash the affected skin with soap and water and dry it well, then apply a thin layer as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands afterwards, unless you are treating an infection on your hands. Keep it away from the eyes, nose, and mouth, and rinse with cool water if it gets into these areas. Do not cover the area with an airtight dressing unless your doctor advises.

Storage and disposal

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date, and discard the used tube as per local guidance.

Quick Tips

  • Clean and dry the skin before applying a thin layer.
  • Use it only for as long as your doctor advises, not longer.
  • Do not save an old tube to treat a new rash on your own.
  • Tell your doctor if the skin does not improve within a few weeks.
  • Avoid covering the treated area with a tight, airtight dressing unless advised.

Dosage

Overdose

This medicine is meant only for use on the skin, so an overdose is unlikely with normal use. Using much more than needed, or over a large area for a long time, is not advised. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Two medicines act together on the skin. The fluticasone calms an overactive skin reaction, which brings down the itching, redness, and swelling that make the skin sore. The mupirocin stops the bacteria in the infection from making the proteins they need to grow, so they can no longer spread. As the infection clears and the inflammation settles, the skin gets a chance to heal.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

When used on the skin as directed, this medicine is unlikely to affect medicines taken by mouth. Tell your doctor about all the medicines and skin products you are using. In particular, if you are applying other antibiotic or steroid creams to the same area, mention this so your doctor can guide you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Use it for the short course your doctor sets, often a week or two. Stopping too soon can let the infection return, and using it for too long raises the risk of thinning skin.
Yes. If the mupirocin is used too often or for too long, bacteria can become harder to treat. Use it exactly as prescribed and do not keep old tubes for future rashes.
It can be used in children only under a doctor's guidance and is not for very young infants. Children absorb skin steroids faster, so treatment needs to be careful and short.
Let your doctor know if there is no improvement after a couple of weeks, or if the skin gets worse, so your treatment can be reviewed.
