How Does It Work?

Roxithromycin prevents bacterial growth by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and thus, interfering with their protein synthesis.

Interactions with other medicines

  • Digoxin, when used along with roxithromycin, may increase absorption
  • Midazolamtaken with roxithromycin increases its half-life
  • Disopyramide removes roxithromycin from its protein binding site
  • Terfenadine elevates the serum level of roxithromycin, leading to ventricular arrhythmias
