Medical Description

Rinagrin tablet is used to lower high blood pressure, support treatment of heart failure and reduce cardiovascular risk in suitable patients. It contains enalapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. Enalapril lowers the formation of a body chemical that tightens blood vessels and encourages salt and fluid retention, so blood vessels relax and the heart pumps with less strain. Rinagrin tablet is swallowed by mouth with or without food and should be used regularly as prescribed. It must not be used during pregnancy.

Uses

  • High blood pressure: Enalapril relaxes blood vessels so blood flows more easily and pressure is reduced during regular treatment.
  • Heart failure: Reducing strain on the heart can improve circulation and ease symptoms as part of a prescribed treatment plan.
  • Heart attack and stroke risk: Long-term control of high blood pressure may lower the chance of these cardiovascular events in suitable patients.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Rinagrin during pregnancy. Do not use it if you previously developed swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat after enalapril or another angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. Do not use it with aliskiren if you have diabetes or severe kidney disease unless a specialist directs you.

Side effects

  • Low blood pressure: Enalapril can lower pressure too much, causing light-headedness or faintness. Sit or lie down and seek urgent help if you faint.
  • Dizziness: Changes in blood pressure may make you feel unsteady, especially when standing up quickly. Hold onto support and contact your doctor if it persists.
  • Fatigue: Enalapril may leave you unusually tired while your circulation adjusts. Rest and tell your doctor if weakness limits normal activities.
  • Dry cough: Enalapril can cause a persistent, tickling cough without mucus. Contact your doctor if it continues or disturbs sleep.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much may cause severe dizziness, fainting, weakness or dangerously low blood pressure. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Enalapril blocks an enzyme that helps form a body chemical which narrows blood vessels and encourages salt and fluid retention. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and makes it easier for the heart to pump. The benefit develops through regular use rather than immediate symptom relief.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Rinagrin works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, potassium supplements, potassium-based salt substitutes, spironolactone, eplerenone, trimethoprim, co-trimoxazole and tacrolimus can raise potassium; anti-inflammatory pain medicines may weaken blood-pressure control and strain the kidneys; and aliskiren or other blood-pressure medicines may lower pressure too much.

Interactions with food items

Potassium-based salt substitutes can raise potassium with Rinagrin. Use them only if your doctor approves them. No other specific food interaction is known.
