Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Ozepam Tablet is a benzodiazepine category medicine. It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA), which decreases the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain. In Treatment of Anxiety Ozepam Tablet prevents your mind from delivering the chemical that causes anxiety so that it can decrease the side effects of nervousness and stress. It decreases the sensations of sleepiness, tiredness, difficulty concentrating, feeling irritation, and sleep problems accompanied by Anxiety Disorder. In Treatment of Epilepsy/Seizures Ozepam Tablet slows down electrical signals in the brain, which cause seizures (fits). It can decrease side effects like confusion, uncontrollable jerking movements, loss of awareness, and nervousness. The medication can permit you to do a few exercises that you are terrified to do (like swimming and driving). It can require some weeks for this medication to work (it should be increased slowly).

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • The antiepileptic medicines (phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine) increases the clearance of clonazepam, thereby decreasing the plasma concentrations up to 38% during combined treatment.
  • Clonazepam influences the concentrations of phenytoin. Due to the dual nature of clonazepam-phenytoin interaction, phenytoin levels are unchanged, increased or decreased upon co-administration with clonazepam depending on dosing and patient factors.

Interactions with food items

  • Ozepam Tablet interacts with grapefruit juice that decreases the activity of cytochrome P-450 3A4, which is used in the metabolism of clonazepam and may increase plasma levels of the medicine.
