Medical Description

Ornof OZ tablet is an antibiotic medicine used for the treatment of diarrhoea caused by mixed organisms in adults. It is a combination medicine containing ofloxacin and ornidazole as its active ingredients. It works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing organisms, thus preventing the spread of infection.

Take it as prescribed by the doctor in dose and duration as prescribed and never miss or skip a dose. Do not stop taking Ornof OZ, always complete the entire course of treatment with antibiotic medicine. Incomplete treatment may result in treatment failure and increase the risk of re-infection.

You can take this medicine with or without food. should not be taken by children below 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about all the medicines and supplements you take and all the conditions or diseases you suffer from, before starting the Ornof OZ tablet.

Uses of ORNOF OZ 200/500MG STRIP OF 10 TABLETS

Ornof OZ tablet is used to treat diarrhoea of mixed infection in adults.

Contraindications of ORNOF OZ 200/500MG STRIP OF 10 TABLETS

If you are allergic to ofloxacin, ornidazole or any of the ingredients of Ornof OZ tablet.
If you are allergic to the class of medicines called Fluoroquinolone.
If you have a history of fits (epilepsy).
If you have problems related to the tendon (tissue connecting muscles to bones) like inflammation and swelling of the tendons (tendonitis).
If you are pregnant or are planning to have a baby or if you are breastfeeding.
If your age is less than 18 years.
If you have Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency (an inherited disorder that affects red blood cells) or a family history of this deficiency.

Your doctor will only prescribe you this medicine if considered essential after assessing the benefits and need.
If you conceive while taking this medicine, immediately inform your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Ornof OZ tablet while breastfeeding?

Components of Ornof OZ tablet pass into breastmilk, thus your doctor will decide to either discontinue the medicine or the breastfeeding after assessing the potential risk on breastfeeding infant over the risk of delayed treatment on breastfeeding mother.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Ornof OZ tablet?

You may experience sleepiness, dizziness, visual disturbance, poor coordination, vertigo, temporary loss of consciousness, rigidity or impairment of skills after taking this medicine. It is advisable not to drive if you experience such symptoms after taking Ornof OZ tablet.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Ornof OZ tablet?

Alcohol should not be consumed with Ornof OZ tablets as it may worsen the side effects.

You feel strain/ pain in tendons (tendinitis), immediately stop this medicine. Do not move the joint and inform your doctor immediately.
You are experiencing continuous or bloody diarrhoea.
You experience sudden and severe pain in your abdomen, back or chest. Immediately contact your doctor.
You have diabetes.
You have myasthenia gravis (a condition causing muscle weakness).
You experience suicidal thoughts, immediately inform your doctor.
You experience fits or have a history of fits.
You feel restlessness, lightheadedness, confusion or hallucinations.
You develop allergic reactions like fever or rashes.
You have a kidney or heart problem.
You are an elderly patient or a female.

Ornof OZ tablet works by the combined action of both its components - ofloxacin and ornidazole.

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way this medicine works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
Especially if you are taking medicines to treat your stomach ulcers, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), psychiatric illness, fits or epilepsy.
Medicines used to treat acidity (antacids) like Sucralfate, iron tablets, and antacids containing calcium and magnesium should not be taken two hours before or after this medicine.
Medicines used to treat pain and inflammation (NSAIDs) can increase the chance of fits.
Increased chances of bleeding if taken along with Warfarin.
Blood sugar can drop if you are on Insulin, Glibenclamide and thus careful monitoring of blood glucose is needed.
