Medical Description

Orex mouth gel is used to relieve pain, soreness and irritation from mouth ulcers and tender areas of the gums. It is a combination of choline salicylate, which reduces local pain and inflammation, benzalkonium chloride, which limits microorganism growth, tannic acid, which forms a protective layer, and menthol, which provides a cooling sensation. These actions may protect the sore area and make eating or speaking more comfortable. Orex mouth gel is for application inside the mouth only and should be used as advised.

  • Sore spots after dental procedures: The gel may provide temporary comfort to tender oral tissues after minor dental work.

Directions for Use

For external use only within the mouth. Wash your hands, then apply a small amount of Orex mouth gel directly to the ulcer or sore area with a clean finger or applicator. Keep the gel on the treated area and avoid eating or drinking immediately after application so it can remain in contact with the sore. Avoid the eyes and open wounds.

Storage and disposal

Store Orex mouth gel in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of the reach of children. Close the tube after use and dispose of unused gel according to local guidance.

Quick Tips

  • Wash your hands before and after applying Orex mouth gel.
  • Use a soft toothbrush and brush gently around the sore.
  • Avoid hot, spicy, acidic and rough foods.
  • Keep the gel away from the eyes and open wounds.
  • See a dentist or doctor if an ulcer lasts, returns often or becomes unusually large.

Dosage

Overdose

If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

Choline salicylate reduces local pain and inflammation. Benzalkonium chloride helps limit the growth of microorganisms at the application site. Tannic acid forms a protective coating over the sore, while menthol cools the area and temporarily eases irritation.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Orex mouth gel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, ask before applying it if you use aspirin, other salicylate medicines or blood thinners, because choline salicylate is related to salicylates.

Interactions with food items

Hot, spicy, salty, acidic or rough foods can worsen mouth-ulcer pain. Choose soft, cool foods until the sore improves.
