Nedol 5 MG Description

Nedol injection is used for treating schizophrenia and Tourette's syndrome (repetitive tics). The main component of this injection is haloperidol decanoate. It belongs to the class of antipsychotics.

The mode of action of Nedol injection is by blocking chemical substances in the brain that affect mood and thoughts. This injection is only given intramuscularly (IM). Managing symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations, delusions, etc., is one of the main uses of Nedol injection. It is also helpful in treating other psychological conditions such as Tourette's syndrome, psychosis, and other behavioural problems. Both children and adults can use it. Impaired driving abilities, concentration, etc., are some of the side effects of Nedol injection. This injection should be given in a clinical or hospital setting by doctors or healthcare professionals. Follow your doctor's directions for use of Nedol injection. It is important to take a lot of fluids as it can cause dry mouth and dehydration. Do not stand up quickly, as this injection can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. Nedol injection also can cause weight gain, so try to eat healthy food and exercise regularly.

Contraindications of Nedol 5 MG

Do not use Nedol injection or use caution:
If you are hypersensitive or allergic to haloperidol or any ingredient in Nedol injection
If you are diagnosed with dementia-related psychosis. In such cases, the injection can cause an increased risk of heart failure, pneumonia, death, etc., especially in older adults.
If you have other psychiatric or mental disorders like Parkinson's disease
If you have central nervous system depression (slow and steady decline of breathing)
If you have an uncontrolled seizure disorder
If you are pregnant. This injection can cause long-lasting effects in unborn and newborn babies
If you are nursing
If you have a low white blood cell count (leukopenia or neutropenia)

Pregnancy

Can I take a Nedol injection during pregnancy?

Nedol injection is not recommended for pregnant women. There are limited studies available on the safety of this medicine though animal studies have not concluded any definitive risks in the unborn baby. Do not take this injection without speaking with your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take the Nedol injection while breastfeeding?

Do not take a Nedol injection while breastfeeding. Limited data suggest that it may pass into breast milk. Its effects are unknown in a newborn baby. Please consult your doctor.

Driving

Can I drive after getting a Nedol injection shot?

Do not drive after getting a Nedol injection. It may cause side effects like dizziness, nausea, blurry vision, drowsiness, etc., impairing your ability to drive.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Nedol injection?

Do not consume alcohol with Nedol injection. It can worsen the condition and increase the severity of the side effects like drowsiness, blurry vision, etc.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You have conduction or rhythm problems of the heart; this injection can worsen that condition.
You have other heart illnesses; you may require a dose adjustment.
You have high levels of thyroid hormone or hyperthyroidism, be extremely careful with this injection.
You have glaucoma (an eye disorder), use this injection with caution. It can raise fluid pressure inside the eye. Dose adjustment is required.
You are an older person over 65 years, the dose of this injection should be carefully monitored. It increases the risk of side effects.
You have any seizure disorder. This medicine can worsen the condition.
You have a known history of severe liver or kidney illness.

You can take a Nedol injection before or after consuming food.
