Uses
- Medistat 5mg nasal spray is used to treat:
- Seizures
- Conscious sedation before surgery or therapeutic procedures
- Relieve anxiety before a procedure
- Reduce pain associated with medical procedures
Contraindications
- Do not take Medistat 5mg nasal spray or take with caution:
- If you are hypersensitive or allergic to Midazolam or other benzodiazepines and the inactive substances present in the medication. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe reactions such as rashes, itchiness, difficulty breathing, dizziness, etc.
- If you have narrow-angle glaucoma, a condition in which the iris of the eye bulges forward and narrows the drainage angle. Medistat 5mg nasal spray can worsen the condition.

- You have lung disease. The medication should be used with extreme caution in persons with respiratory disease or a history of severe lung conditions. The medication can worsen the condition. Symptoms such as dizziness or shortness of breath should be reported to the doctor immediately. Dosage adjustments should be made according to the affected person's clinical condition.
- You are a child under 12. This medicine is not indicated for this age group.
- You are in shock or have depressed respiration. This medication should be used with extreme caution as it can worsen their condition.
- You have an increased risk of developing paradoxical reactions, such as displaying symptoms of nervousness, nightmares, excitability, sleep disturbances, etc. The risk of paradoxical reactions is higher in persons with psychiatric disorders. The user should be closely monitored for changes in mood and behaviour. Dosage adjustment can be made according to the affected person's clinical condition, or an alternative medication can be given.
- You have been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, a condition with a rapid weakness of muscles. This medicine can worsen the condition.
- You have depression or a history of depression. Individuals with a history of depression should be monitored for changes in behaviour, mood, and personality. Dosage adjustment can be made according to the affected person's clinical condition, or an alternative medication can be given. This medicine should be used with extreme caution as it can worsen the condition.
- You have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. This medicine should be used with caution as it can worsen the condition.
Directions for Use
- Medistat 5mg nasal spray must be taken as directed by your doctor.
- Take Medistat 5mg nasal spray at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.
- Insert the tip of the bottle into one nostril while you close the opposite one.
- Spray the medicine by directing the nozzle to the side of the nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the nose.
- While spraying the medication, inhale gently and keep your head upright. Repeat the process for the other nostril.
- Do not alter the recommended dosage of Medistat 5mg nasal spray. Talk to your doctor if you feel that your prescribed dosage is not working for you.
- Do not discontinue the use of Medistat 5mg nasal spray without consulting your doctor.

- Clozapine (medication to treat psychosis)- increase the effects of both medications leading to side effects
- Fluconazole (medication to treat a variety of yeast and fungal infections) - significantly increase the blood levels and effects of midazolam leading to increased risk of side effects
- Atazanavir (medication to treat the symptoms of HIV)- significantly increase the blood levels and effects of midazolam leading to increased risk of side effects
- Darunavir (medication to treat viral replication in human immunodeficiency virus disease)- significantly increase the blood levels and effects of midazolam leading to increased risk of side effects
- Carbamazepine (medication to treat and control seizures and convulsions)- may alter the effectiveness of midazolam
- Amitriptyline (medication to treat mood disorders such as depression)- increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating.
Interactions with food items
- Do not take grapefruit or its juice when you are on treatment with this medicine. It can result in an increased risk of developing side effects.
