Medical Description
tablet is a combination medicine that contains losartan and atenolol as its active ingredients. Losartan belongs to the class of medications known as Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs), whereas atenolol is a beta blocker. It is used to treat high blood pressure and also helps alleviate other heart problems. It serves to relieve chest pain and regulate the heartbeat.
While taking this medicine, it is essential to maintain a healthy diet and engage in regular exercise. It should be taken as directed by your doctor and in the prescribed doses and duration. It can be taken with or without food. Do not discontinue this medicine unless instructed to do so by your doctor. The doctor may also recommend avoiding potassium supplements during treatment, as they may raise potassium levels in the bloodstream.
It is essential to regularly monitor your blood pressure, and your doctor may request some kidney tests during treatment to ensure the medicines are functioning properly. Interactions with other medicines
- Sometimes tablet may interact with other medicines or vice versa. Therefore, discuss with your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbal preparations you are taking.
- Especially if you are on certain medications like blood thinners (warfarin or heparin), anti-cancer medicines, anti-depressants like lithium, potassium supplements or medicines containing potassium, other anti-hypertensives like water pills (furosemide), medicines for heart-related disorders like digoxin etc.
- If you have diabetes, do not take aliskiren along with tablet.
- Concomitant use of tablet and painkillers should be avoided as it may impair kidney functions
- Other medicines that should be used with caution are anti-bacterial medicines such as Trimethoprim, corticosteroids used to treat the inflamed area of body parts etc.
- Concomitant use of the tablet along with medicines of class calcium channel blockers Verapamil, diltiazem, and nifedipine (for high blood pressure or chest pain) should be avoided.
- Concomitant therapy with dihydropyridines, e.g. nifedipine, may increase the risk of low blood pressure and cardiac failure.
