Mode of Action of Lignocaine 2 %
How Does It Work?
Lignocaine hydrchloride inhibits the conduction of impulses thereby bringing about local numbness of the region that is supplied by the nerve in which it is injected.
Directions for Use of Lignocaine 2 %
- Lignocaine is used as an injection as local, spinal and caudal anesthesia. It will be given by a trained nurse or surgeon.
Interactions of Lignocaine 2 %
Interactions with other medicines
- Lignocaine can interfere with the action of several medicine such as acetazolamide, cimetidine, dolasetron, quinupristin, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, and anti-arrhythmics
- Medicines that can cause methmoglobinaemia should be avoided when lignocaine is being used e.g. anti-malarials, anti-convulsants, nitrates, etc.
Other general Interactions
Clearance of Lignocaine is reduced and systemic exposure increased in patients with cirrhosis

Store Lignocaine at room temperature (20-25°C). Keep out of reach of children. Protect from light.
