Medical Description

Lesuride injection contains levosulpiride, which belongs to the group of medicines known as gastrointestinal prokinetics. It is recommended for patients who experience nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and dyspepsia. It is effective in treating schizophrenia and depression in adults. Using this medicine may be associated with side effects like menstrual disorders, enlargement of breasts in males, enhanced libido, dizziness and weakness. Therefore, do not delay reporting to the doctor in case of missed periods, abnormal sexual behaviour, or any other abnormal change. The doctor will guide the appropriate protocol to reduce or prevent the side effects. In case of a past illness like cardiac disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, or epileptic attack, inform the doctor before taking the medicine. Pregnant and lactating mothers should not use the medicine without the doctor’s consultation.

  • It is intended to be given via IV or IM route. Do not try to self-administer the injection.

How Does It Work?

Lesuride injection contains levosulpiride, which increases the pressure at the lower oesophagal sphincter to prevent stomach acid and contents from flowing back into the mouth. This is how it treats GERD. It is an antipsychotic drug as well that works by releasing acetylcholine (a chemical released from the brain) which increases the motility of the stomach and intestine and hence prevents reflux (backflow), nausea, and vomiting.

  • Alcohol is an excellent source for increasing acid production in the stomach, leading to hyperacidity and heartburn.
