Medical Description

Lemolate syrup is used for temporary relief of fever, headache, body aches and a blocked nose that can occur with a common cold. It contains a combination of paracetamol, caffeine and phenylephrine. Paracetamol reduces pain and fever, caffeine can enhance pain relief, and phenylephrine reduces swelling in the nasal passages. The syrup is used by mouth after shaking and measuring it with the supplied measuring cup, as directed by a doctor. It provides short-term symptom relief and does not treat the underlying infection.

  • Fever and mild pain: Paracetamol reduces fever and pain, while caffeine can strengthen its pain-relieving effect.
  • Blocked nose: Swelling inside the nasal passages makes breathing through the nose difficult; this syrup eases that congestion for more comfortable breathing during a cold.

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Lemolate syrup with another product containing paracetamol or phenylephrine. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, glaucoma, diabetes or difficulty passing urine.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy. Use Lemolate syrup during pregnancy only if a healthcare professional recommends it.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. A healthcare professional should confirm that this combination is suitable before use.

Driving

Driving

Lemolate syrup may cause dizziness or sleepiness in some people. Do not drive until you know how it affects you.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol because it can worsen dizziness and sleepiness and may increase the risk of paracetamol-related harm.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring cup supplied with the pack and use Lemolate syrup by mouth exactly as directed. Do not drink directly from the bottle. It may be taken with or without food. Do not combine it with another paracetamol, phenylephrine or cold-relief product.

Storage and disposal

Store Lemolate syrup as directed on the pack, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Keep the bottle tightly closed. Dispose of unused syrup according to local guidance and do not use it after expiry.

Quick Tips

  • Use the measuring device supplied with the pack.
  • Check other cold or pain products for paracetamol before using them.
  • Avoid extra caffeine while using Lemolate syrup.
  • Drink suitable fluids unless your doctor has restricted them.
  • Do not drive if you feel dizzy or sleepy.

Dosage

Overdose

A large amount of paracetamol can cause serious harm even if you initially feel well. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Paracetamol reduces the body's production of chemicals involved in pain and fever. Caffeine can improve alertness and enhance the pain-relieving effect of paracetamol. Phenylephrine narrows swollen blood vessels in the nose, which helps reduce nasal blockage.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Lemolate syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic medicines used for low mood can increase phenylephrine's effects on blood pressure; medicines for high blood pressure or heart problems may change heart rate or blood pressure effects; sedatives may worsen sleepiness; and other products containing paracetamol or phenylephrine can increase harmful excess effects.

Interactions with food items

Avoid extra caffeine from coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks and chocolate because caffeine in the syrup may increase restlessness or a fast heartbeat. Avoid alcohol because it can increase drowsiness and the risk of paracetamol-related harm.
