Medical Description

Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine is an inactivated influenza vaccine used to help prevent seasonal influenza, commonly called the flu, in adults and in children from six months of age. It contains purified surface antigens (proteins) from killed influenza viruses, so the immune system learns to recognise the virus without the risk of the vaccine causing influenza. This vaccine helps prevent influenza; it does not treat it. Protection develops over roughly two weeks and is not absolute, so some vaccinated people still develop influenza. Because circulating strains change and protection fades, the vaccine composition is updated, and the vaccine is repeated each season. A doctor or nurse gives Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine as an injection into a muscle, usually the upper arm. It must never be self-injected. In India, vaccination timing may vary by region and local influenza activity. Follow any aftercare advice you are given, and stay where you were vaccinated for a short observation period. Most reactions are mild and include soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site; mild fever; chills; tiredness; and headache, aching muscles, or aching joints. Rarely, a serious allergic reaction can occur. Seek help immediately for swelling of the face, lips, or throat, breathing difficulty, a widespread rash, or fainting. Before vaccination, tell your doctor about any allergy to a previous vaccine or to eggs, any current fever, any bleeding or clotting disorder, any condition or medicine that weakens the immune system, and any blood test you have booked. Driving is not affected unless you feel unwell. Rest and drink fluids afterwards if you feel tired.

Uses

  • For the prevention of seasonal influenza (flu) in adults and in children from six months of age.
  • Particularly for people at increased risk of complications from influenza, including older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with long-term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease including asthma and COPD, liver disease, or a weakened immune system.

  • Loss of appetite

Precautions and Warnings

Other General Warnings

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You or your child has a poor immune response (immunodeficiency) or is taking medications that may affect the immune system.
  • You or your child experiences issues with bleeding or bruising easily.
  • You have previously experienced symptoms such as feeling faint, fainting, or other stress-related reactions either before or after any needle injection.
  • You or your child has blood tests scheduled within a few days after vaccination.
  • You or your child has thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder.
Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Yes. You can receive inactivated influenza vaccines during pregnancy, including in the first trimester. Pregnant women have a higher risk of severe illness from influenza, and vaccination also passes some protection to the baby for the first months of life. Tell your doctor that you are pregnant, or think you may be, so that vaccination can be planned as part of your antenatal care.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Yes. Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine can be given to breastfeeding mothers. It is an inactivated vaccine and can be used during breastfeeding.

Driving

Driving

Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine is not known to affect the ability to drive. However, if you feel dizzy, faint, tired, or unwell after the injection, wait until you feel normal again before driving or operating machinery.

Alcohol

Alcohol

There is no established interaction between alcohol and Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine. Avoid excessive alcohol intake around the time of vaccination, particularly if you feel unwell.

Directions for Use

Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine will be administered by your doctor or nurse. Do not self-inject this vaccine. Please adhere to any aftercare instructions provided by the doctor or nurse.

Storage and disposal

Keep refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C. Do not freeze. Ensure it is kept out of reach of children and pets.

Quick Tips

  • Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 vaccine is an annual flu vaccine; get it each year for optimal protection as circulating strains change.
  • The vaccine will not protect you against the common cold, even though some of its symptoms are similar to those of the flu.
  • Please discuss any allergies or previous reactions to vaccines with your healthcare provider before receiving the vaccination.
  • Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 is generally recommended for individuals aged 6 months and older. Your doctor can confirm if it's right for you.
  • Avoid the vaccine if you currently have a high fever or active flu symptoms; wait until you recover before immunization.

Dosage

Missed a Dose

If you have missed a dose of the Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 vaccine, please consult your doctor. Your doctor will advise you or your child on the best time to get vaccinated.

Overdose

Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 vaccine will be given to you by a doctor or nurse, and hence, the chances of an overdose are unlikely.

How does this medicine work?

Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine enhances immunity by introducing inactivated fragments of the influenza virus, primarily hemagglutinin, which stimulates antibody production. These antibodies neutralize the influenza virus, reducing the risk of serious infections in the future. Given the evolving nature of influenza strains, the vaccine is updated annually to match circulating viruses.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking or might take to avoid possible interactions.
  • If Influvac Tetra 2026 vaccine is given at the same time as other vaccines, vaccination should be done on different limbs.
  • The ability of the body to produce antibodies (proteins that protect the individual against infection caused by viruses) may be decreased if you or your child is using medicines that suppress the immune system.

Interactions with food items

No known food interactions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. Influvac Tetra 2026/2027 Vaccine is an inactivated vaccine. It is made from purified surface antigens (proteins) from killed influenza viruses, so it contains no live virus and cannot cause influenza. Some people feel mildly unwell for a day or two afterwards, but that is the immune system responding to the vaccine, not an infection.
It takes roughly two weeks after vaccination for the body to build an immune response. During that period, you are not yet protected, which is why the vaccine is given ahead of the influenza season rather than during an outbreak.
Influenza activity in India can vary by region and season. Vaccination timing should therefore be based on local influenza activity and your doctor's advice, rather than assuming a single timing for the whole country. Your doctor will advise the timing that suits your region and your health.
Yes. Influenza viruses change from season to season, and the vaccine strains are updated each year to match those expected to circulate. Protection from a previous year's vaccine also decreases over time. Annual vaccination is needed for continued protection.
Swine flu is caused by the influenza A H1N1 virus, and an H1N1 component is included in the seasonal influenza vaccine. The exact strains in any season's vaccine are set each year in line with the World Health Organization recommendation for that hemisphere and season, so ask your doctor or pharmacist what this season's vaccine covers.
No. This vaccine protects only against seasonal influenza. It does not protect against the common cold, COVID-19, or other respiratory infections, even though some symptoms overlap. It also does not protect against every influenza virus in circulation, and some vaccinated people still catch influenza, usually more mildly.
It is especially important for people at higher risk of influenza complications. This includes older adults, young children, pregnant women, healthcare workers, and anyone with a long-term condition such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung disease including asthma and COPD, liver disease, or a weakened immune system.
Yes, it can generally be given alongside other vaccines, but they should be injected at different sites, preferably in different limbs. Tell the doctor or nurse about any vaccine you have had recently or are due to receive, so they can plan the schedule properly.
If you have a high fever or a moderate to severe illness, vaccination is usually postponed until you have recovered. A mild illness such as a cold without fever is not normally a reason to delay. Your doctor will decide on the day.
Tell your doctor about the allergy before vaccination. This vaccine is produced using eggs and may contain traces of egg protein. The product information lists hypersensitivity to egg protein or other vaccine components as a contraindication. Your doctor will assess whether this vaccine is appropriate for you.
Soreness at the injection site, mild fever, tiredness, headache and aching muscles are common and settle within a day or two. Seek medical help immediately if you develop swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty in breathing, a widespread rash, dizziness, or a racing heartbeat, as these can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
It can. For a short period after influenza vaccination, some antibody blood tests, including certain tests for HIV, hepatitis C and HTLV-1, may give a falsely positive result. If you have a blood test booked in the days after vaccination, tell the doctor or the laboratory that you have been vaccinated.
Younger children who are receiving an influenza vaccine for the first time may need a second dose a few weeks after the first, so that the immune system responds fully. Children who have been vaccinated in a previous season, and older children and adults, usually need only one dose each year. Your doctor will confirm what applies to your child.
If the injection site is sore or you have a mild fever, ask your doctor or pharmacist what you can take. A cool compress over the site and normal use of the arm also help. Do not take medicines routinely before vaccination to prevent side effects unless your doctor advises it.
