Medical Description

Furoped Oral Solution contains Furosemide, which is diuretic medicine. It is used for the treatment of swelling over the body due to heart disease, lung disease, liver disease or kidney disease. It is also used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It works by decreasing sodium, chloride and water absorption from the kidney, causing its excretion through urine. Thus, it reduces body swelling by secreting extra salt and water through urine, causing increased urination. Dizziness, headache, blurring of vision, lightheadedness are some of the side effects of this medicine.

Uses

Furoped Oral Solution is used for the treatment of swelling over the body due to heart disease, lung disease, liver disease or kidney disease. It is also used for the treatment of high blood pressure.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to this medicine or any of the other ingredients of Furoped Oral Solution.
  • If you are allergic to sulfonamide medicine.
  • If you have low blood volume and dehydration.
  • If your doctor tells you that you have low sodium and low potassium level in blood.
  • If the patient has coma or is in the initial stage of coma.
  • If you have kidney failure associated with urine output less than 100ml in 24 hours.
  • If you have kidney failure due to some medicines.
  • If you are a lactating woman.
  • If you have a rare hereditary blood disorder called porphyria.

Pregnancy

Furoped Oral Solution should not be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy, as it can decrease the growth of the unborn baby. This medicine can be taken in the second and third trimester of pregnancy if your doctor prescribed it for your other medical condition. If you become pregnant while on the treatment with this medicine, inform your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Components of Furoped Oral Solution are known to pass in breastmilk and may stop the secretion of breastmilk. Therefore, this medicine should be avoided if you are breastfeeding.

Driving

Furoped Oral Solution can cause dizziness, blurring of vision, decrease in alertness. Avoid driving while on this medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have low blood pressure.
  • You have dizziness, fainting or loss of consciousness.
  • You have difficulty in urination.
  • You have diabetes or gout.
  • You have liver disease, kidney disease or adrenal disease.
  • Your doctor tells you that you have low protein level in the blood, high blood calcium level.

Directions for Use

Take Furoped Oral Solution with or without food as prescribed by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store Furoped Oral Solution at a temperature below 25°C in a cool and dry place. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Furoped Oral Solution include dehydration, a decrease in blood volume, low blood pressure, temporary difficulty in hearing, etc. If you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.

Missed a Dose

  • If you missed any dose of Furoped Oral Solution, take it as soon as you remember.
  • If it's time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule.
  • Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How Does It Work?

It works by decreasing sodium, chloride and water absorption from the kidney, causing its excretion through urine. Thus, it reduces body swelling by secreting extra salt and water through urine, causing increased urination.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Taking Furoped Oral Solution with other medicines used to lower blood pressure such as the ACE inhibitor group of medicine and angiotensin II receptor antagonist group of medicine can cause a high decrease in blood pressure.
  • Taking this medicine with other medicines such as cardiac glycoside, diuretics, phenothiazine, hydralazine, tizanidine medicine can cause a further decrease in blood pressure.
  • Taking this medicine with other medicines such as amisulpride medicine or sertindole medicine cause irregular heartbeat.
  • Taking this medicine with other medicines such as amiodarone, disopyramide, flecainide and sotalol can cause heart problem.
  • Taking this medicine with other medicines such as lidocaine, tocainide or mexiletine can cause a decrease in the action of this other medicines.
  • Discuss with your doctor about any other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking currently to avoid interactions.
