Fortwin Tablets are used to manage moderate to severe pain. It consists of pentazocine as the main component. It belongs to the class of opioid or narcotic pain relievers. It is a medicine prescribed for relieving chronic (long term), persistent and moderate to severe pain. It can be used to address localised or general pain.
Fortwin Tablets are considered a safe medication when taken in the prescribed dosage. Consult your doctor before taking this medication. It is mostly prescribed for an individual in sustained pain. Try not to use this medicine continuously for a long term without consulting a doctor.
Some people can experience withdrawal effects with this medication after long-term use. Fortwin medicine has the risks of abuse and addiction. Though there are some potential side effects of Fortwin tablets, most of them do not need any medical attention.
Uses
- As per USFDA, Fortwin tablet is used for,
- Managing moderate to severe pain.
Contraindications
If you are allergic to any component of this medication.
If you are using other opioid pain relievers, sleeping pills, antidepressants or antipsychotics.
If you have liver failure or other conditions that affect the liver’s functioning, the medicine increases the risk of adverse reactions.
If you have a history of addiction or dependency issues.
If you are pregnant, this medicine can cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in newborn babies.
If you have stomach and intestinal bleeding or perforation.
If you have central nervous system depression (slow and steady decline of respiration).
If you have intestinal obstructions, like paralytic ileus.
If you are suffering from breathing issues like asthma.
If your body has been in shock, and sufficient blood is not being pumped to all body parts.
Not for children below 13 years of age, as it contains pentazocine, an opioid medication that is contraindicated in children

Directions for Use
- Take a Fortwin Tablet exactly as directed by the doctor.
- You can take Fortwin Tablet with or without consuming food.
- Do not exceed the dosage of Fortwin Tablet, even if you cannot feel its effects.
- Take the tablet as a whole. Swallow with a glass of water.
- Do not break the Fortwin Tablet or chew it.
- Do not take the medicine if the package has been opened.
- Do not suddenly stop taking Fortwin Tablet, as it can have adverse effects.
- Do not take it with other medication with Fortwin Tablet without informing your doctor.
Storage and disposal
Store Fortwin Tablets in dry conditions, away from wet surfaces, direct sunlight, and humid conditions. Dispose of the packaging after use. Check the expiration date before taking the tablet.
Do not use it if it's past the expiration date. Keep Fortwin Tablets away from the reach of children and pets.

Overdose
- Fortwin Tablet overdose can cause abdominal pain, dizziness, fainting, vomiting, seizures, low blood sugar, sweating, cardiac arrest, lethargy, low blood pressure, liver problems (yellow skin and eyes), confusion, and coma. In case of Fortwin Tablet overdose, seek immediate medical treatment from the nearest medical centre.
Missed a Dose
If you have missed a dose of the Fortwin Tablet, take it as soon as possible. If it is already time to take the next dose, do not take both doses together, as it can cause an overdose. Skip the missed dose and take the next one. Talk to your doctor if you have any confusion about it.

How Does It Work?
Fortwin Tablets contain pentazocine, an opioid pain reliever. It acts on the central nervous system and inhibits the transmission of pain signals from nerves in the brain to the rest of the body. It blocks the pain pathways in the nervous system by binding to certain receptors. It is responsible for reducing pain and inducing a calming effect in the body.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Do not take Fortwin Tablet with other opioid pain medications like Tramadol, as they can cause serious adverse effects.
- Do not take Fortwin Tablet with antidepressants like linezolid, naltrexone, methylene blue, etc. They can cause increased side effects like lethargy, dizziness, drowsiness, tremors, vomitings, etc.
- Do not take it with antihistamines like diphenhydramine and cetirizine, as they can increase the effect of drowsiness.
- Do not take Fortwin Tablets with medicines that lower respiration like sleeping pills, other central depressant medicine or tranquilisers. This can cause life-threatening side effects.
Interactions with food items
- Fortwin Tablets do not have any adverse interactions with food. It can be taken before or after consuming food. If you have any stomach problems, take this medicine after having food.
