Medical Description

Fesoft syrup is a medicine used to provide nutrients that support haemoglobin and healthy red blood cell formation when iron or vitamin intake is inadequate. It contains a combination of ferrous bisglycinate, folic acid, cyanocobalamin, pyridoxine and zinc. Iron supplies material for haemoglobin, while folic acid and vitamin B12 help blood cells develop normally; vitamin B6 and zinc support other normal body functions. Fesoft syrup is used by mouth and should be measured and used as advised by a healthcare professional.

Uses

  • Iron deficiency support: Low iron can limit haemoglobin production and leave a person tired or weak; this syrup helps restore iron needed for healthy red blood cells.
  • Vitamin and mineral nutrition: Folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin B6 and zinc help meet nutritional needs for normal blood, nerve and tissue functions.
  • Nutritional deficiency support: The combination may help fill dietary gaps when a healthcare professional identifies inadequate intake of iron and supporting nutrients.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use Fesoft syrup. Do not use it without medical advice if you have an iron-storage disorder, high iron levels or anaemia caused by something other than a nutrient deficiency. Tell your doctor about any condition that affects iron absorption.

Side effects

  • Nausea: Iron may irritate the stomach, particularly when the syrup is used without food. Seek advice if vomiting prevents you from keeping it down.
  • Constipation: Iron can make bowel movements harder or less frequent. Increase fibre and fluids when suitable, and contact your doctor if severe.
  • Stomach upset: Mineral ingredients may cause abdominal discomfort or repeated vomiting. Stop and seek medical advice if pain is persistent.
  • Dark stools: Iron can make stools darker than usual. Seek urgent care if stools are tar-like or accompanied by weakness or bleeding.

Dosage

Overdose

An excessive amount of iron can cause severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unusual drowsiness. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Ferrous bisglycinate supplies iron for haemoglobin, the protein that carries oxygen in red blood cells. Folic acid and cyanocobalamin, a form of vitamin B12, support the development and maturation of blood cells. Pyridoxine, a form of vitamin B6, supports normal protein and blood functions, while zinc contributes to normal tissue and immune function.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Fesoft syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, antacids and acid-reducing medicines may lower iron absorption, while iron may reduce absorption of thyroid medicines and some antibiotics. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to separate these medicines.

Interactions with food items

Tea, coffee, milk and calcium-rich foods may lower iron absorption when taken close to Fesoft syrup. Ask your pharmacist how to space them.
