Medical Description

Exna K tablet is a combination water-removing medicine used to remove excess fluid and help manage swelling or high blood pressure when prescribed. It contains frusemide, which prompts the kidneys to remove more salt and water in urine, and amiloride, which helps limit potassium loss during this process. By increasing urine flow while reducing potassium loss, the combination can ease fluid buildup, although blood tests may still be needed. Exna K tablet is taken by mouth as a whole with water and should be used under medical supervision.

How does this medicine work?

Frusemide acts on the kidneys to increase removal of salt and water into urine. Amiloride also promotes salt and water removal but helps the body retain potassium. The combination reduces excess fluid while lowering the chance of potassium loss, although blood tests may still be needed.

Some medicines can affect the way Exna K tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes and other potassium-sparing water tablets may cause dangerously high potassium; other water tablets and medicines for high blood pressure may increase low blood pressure or dehydration; lithium levels may rise; anti-inflammatory pain medicines may reduce the fluid-removing effect and worsen kidney function; digoxin toxicity may increase when body salts change; and steroid medicines may increase potassium loss.
