Interactions with other medicines

  • Medications like warfarin, valporate, carbamazepine, theophylline and ergotamine when taken along with Erythromycin get metabolised at a lesser rate than normal increasing their effects
  • Concurrent use of Erythromycin with Terfenadine, Astemizole and Cisapride may cause serious life threatening arrhythmias
  • Erythromycin should not be given in patients with electrolyte disturbance due to the risk of prolongation of QT interval
  • Erythromycin can increase the toxicity of rhabdomyolysis with statins
