Medical Description

Ciplar-40 tablet is used to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to treat heart-related conditions associated with increased heart rate and pressure. It contains propranolol as its active ingredient. Propranolol relaxes the blood vessels in the body which relieves the pressure on the heart and reduces the heart rate. Take this medicine at the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Also inform about all the medicines and supplements you take and the conditions or diseases you suffer from before starting Ciplar-40 tablet.

Uses

Ciplar-40 tablet is used for the treatment of high blood pressure, chest pain radiating in nature, tremors, and any other related heart condition.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to propranolol or any other ingredient of Ciplar-40 tablet.
  • If you have heart blocks, low heart rate, low blood pressure, or any other heart-related problem.
  • If you have a blood circulation problem that affects the blood supply to different body parts.
  • If you have a lung condition such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • If you have low blood sugar.
  • If you have an acid-base imbalance in the body (metabolic acidosis).
  • If you have an untreated tumour of the adrenal gland known as pheochromocytoma.

Overdose

Missed a Dose

  • Concurrent use of Ciplar-40 tablet with verapamil, diltiazem (medicines used to treat heart problems), digoxin (medicines used to treat heart failure), disopyramide, quinidine (medicines used to treat irregular/abnormal heartbeat), cimetidine (a medicine used to reduce stomach acid) may result in decreased heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines to treat high blood pressure, brain-related problems, and diabetes.
  • Concurrent use of blood thinners such as warfarin with Ciplar-40 tablet can increase the risk of bleeding.

It is not advised to do the simultaneous administration of the two medications as aspirin affects the working of beta-blockers like propranolol and makes it less effective in lowering the blood pressure.

You should take Ciplar-40 for the duration prescribed by your doctor. This medicine is usually prescribed for a long duration. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly.

It generally takes around a week for the medicine to start showing progress/effects. But the effect of the medicine varies in each individual due to differences in body physiology.

Getting on and off Ciplar-40 tablet should be only after or as prescribed by the doctor. A sudden stop to the medication can result in the blood pressure shooting up and causing a stroke and other heart related conditions.

Taking propranolol in severe ailments of the kidneys can result in further degradation or damage to the blood capillaries of the kidneys.
