Augmentin DDS suspension is an antibiotic medicine used for the treatment of various bacterial infections such as infection of the lungs, airways, ears, urinary tract, skin, bone, joints, soft tissue and tooth. It contains a combination of two medicines, Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid, and belongs to the class of penicillin antibiotics. This medicine is used in children. Please inform your doctor if your child is allergic to antibiotics or has experienced any allergic reactions after taking antibiotics.
Uses
Contraindications
- If your child is allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid or any of the ingredients of this medicine.
- If your child has a history of severe allergic reactions to any other antibiotic like cephalosporins, monobactam, carbapenem.
- If your child had liver problems & jaundice with this medicine before.

- Difficulty in digestion
- Skin rashes & irritation

Precautions and Warnings
Other General Warnings
- Your child ever had allergic reactions to penicillin, cephalosporins.
- Your child has had liver problems.
- Your child has a kidney problem.
- Your child has a history of fits.
- Your child experiences redness of the skin followed by eruptions.
- Your child experiences fatigue, fever, rash and swollen glands.
- Your child has diarrhoea and abdominal pain even after stopping treatment with this medicine.
- Your child has difficulty in passing urine.
Directions for Use
- Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
- Read the label carefully before using this medication.
- For reconstitution:
- Boil and cool the water.
- Add the water slightly below the mark on the bottle.
- Shake it well and make the volume up to the given mark on the bottle.
- A reconstituted solution should be used within the duration mentioned on the bottle.
Storage and disposal
- Store this medicine at or below 25°C in the original packaging to protect it from catching moisture.
- Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Concomitant use of Augmentin DDS suspension with blood thinners such as warfarin, acenocoumarol increases the risk of bleeding when taken it is advised to regularly monitor the blood tests like PT-INR.
- The risk of side effects increases when Augmentin DDS suspension taken with methotrexate which is used in the treatment of cancer.
- Medicines used to treat gout like allopurinol or probenecid and medicines used to modify immune response during an organ transplant like mycophenolate mofetil should be used cautiously with this medicine.
