Medical Description

Anabel IR gel is a mouth gel used for short-term relief of pain and discomfort from mouth ulcers, denture irritation or rubbing from dental braces. It contains a combination of choline salicylate and benzalkonium. Choline salicylate reduces local pain and inflammation, while benzalkonium helps limit the growth of some microorganisms. Anabel IR gel is applied directly to the sore area in the mouth and is for external use only. Apply it only as advised and keep it on the sore area rather than letting it enter the throat.

Uses

  • Mouth ulcers: Painful breaks in the mouth lining can make eating uncomfortable; the gel gives short-term local relief from pain and inflammation.
  • Denture irritation: Friction from dentures can make nearby mouth tissue sore; applying the gel to that area may ease discomfort.
  • Brace-related discomfort: Dental braces can rub the mouth lining and cause soreness; the gel may provide temporary relief at the affected spot.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, including choline salicylate, benzalkonium or other salicylate medicines, do not use it. Do not use it if you have a stomach or bowel ulcer, asthma or another breathing condition unless your doctor advises it. Do not apply it beyond the sore area or let it enter the throat.

Side effects

  • Burning: The raw surface of a mouth ulcer may sting when the gel is applied. Stop using Anabel IR gel if burning is severe or does not settle.
  • Itching: Benzalkonium may irritate sensitive mouth tissue and cause itching. Remove any remaining gel and seek medical advice if swelling develops.
  • Redness: The treated area may look red after application. Stop using the gel and get emergency medical help for facial swelling, throat swelling or breathing difficulty.

Directions for Use

For external use only. Wash your hands before and after applying. Apply a small amount of Anabel IR gel directly to the mouth sore as advised by your doctor. Keep it on the sore area and avoid food or drinks for thirty minutes after applying. Do not apply it beyond the sore area or let it enter the throat.

  • Apply only to the sore area and keep it away from the throat.
  • Avoid food and drinks for thirty minutes after application.
  • Keep the gel away from children and pets.

Dosage

Overdose

Using too much Anabel IR gel in the mouth may cause salicylate toxicity, with dizziness, ringing in the ears or hearing changes. If you think you have used too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

The choline salicylate component reduces chemical signals involved in pain and inflammation. The benzalkonium component helps limit the growth of some microorganisms by disrupting their outer barrier. Together, they provide local relief when the gel is applied to a mouth sore.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Anabel IR gel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell them if you use medicines for gout, blood thinners such as warfarin or heparin, aspirin or other salicylate medicines. Salicylate absorption can increase bleeding risk or other side effects, especially if the gel is used excessively or reaches the stomach.

Interactions with food items

Alcohol can make mouth ulcers and inflammation more painful. Avoid alcoholic drinks while the sore is irritated.
