The gel is applied inside the mouth to the affected area and should be used only as directed. Do not eat or drink immediately after applying it.

  • Sore gums: The gel may relieve pain and swelling from irritated gums when used as advised.
  • Denture irritation: Local application may reduce discomfort where dentures rub against the mouth lining.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use Anabel mouth gel. Do not use it if you have had an allergy to salicylate medicines or local anaesthetics unless your doctor advises. Do not apply more than directed or beyond the affected area inside the mouth.

Side effects

  • Mouth irritation: Choline salicylate can sting or increase burning on a raw ulcer. Stop applying it if irritation or redness worsens.
  • Temporary numbness: Lignocaine can numb the mouth or throat after application. Avoid hot food and drinks until feeling returns to prevent burns or bites.

Missed a Dose

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed one. Do not apply extra product to make up for it.

How does this medicine work?

Choline salicylate reduces the release of chemical messengers that cause local pain, redness and swelling. Lignocaine hydrochloride temporarily blocks pain signals from nearby nerves, reducing the feeling of pain. Benzalkonium chloride is also present as part of the formulation. Together, the active pain-relieving ingredients provide short-term relief inside the mouth.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Anabel mouth gel works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you use. In particular, mention aspirin or other salicylate medicines, blood-thinning medicines, other local anaesthetics and medicines used for mouth pain.

Interactions with food items

Do not eat or drink immediately after applying Anabel mouth gel because numbness may increase the risk of biting or burning the mouth.
