Medical Description

Amyclox Lb Ds capsule is an antibiotic. Treating several different types of bacterial infections of the throat, lungs, ears, nose, urinary tract, skin, etc., is the primary use of the Amyclox Lb Ds capsule. This capsule is also used with other medications to stop the growth of H. pylori bacteria, the most common cause of stomach ulcers. This medication is not effective against infections caused by viruses or fungus. The main component of this medication is Amoxicillin. It belongs to the penicillin group of antibiotics. The mode of action of Amyclox Lb Ds capsules is to kill the bacteria and lower the infection and symptoms associated with the infection, such as fever, sore throat, etc. There can be some common side effects of Amyclox Lb Ds capsule. Most of them do not require any medical attention. However, it is best to consult the doctor in case of persisting or worsening symptoms. Kidney issues can contraindicate the effects of Amyclox Lb Ds capsules. These capsules can make birth control pills less effective.

Uses

  • As per CDSCO and USFDA, Amyclox Lb Ds capsule is indicated for-
  • Treatment of various infections of the ear, nose, throat, genitourinary tract, skin and skin structure, and lower respiratory tract.
  • Treatment of H. pylori infection and duodenal ulcer disease. It is used in combination with other medications.

Contraindications

  • If you have a history of hypersensitivity to Amoxicillin or other similar antibiotics (e.g., penicillins or cephalosporins). Severe allergic reactions require immediate emergency treatment with supportive measures.
  • If you are diagnosed with Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea. It has been reported using nearly all antibiotics, including Amyclox Lb Ds capsule and may range in severity from mild diarrhoea to fatal colitis. Treatment with antibiotics alters the colon's normal flora, leading to the overgrowth of C. difficile bacteria.
  • If you are diagnosed with mononucleosis infection. Using Amyclox Lb Ds capsules can cause an itchy and red skin rash.
  • If you are not correctly diagnosed with a suspected bacterial infection. Using this medicine in such cases does not benefit the patient and increases the risk of developing treatment-resistant bacteria.
  • If you have a condition known as Phenylketonuria (a birth defect). These capsules may contain aspartame, which can worsen the condition.
  • If you are giving this medicine to a newborn. Amyclox Lb Ds capsule's dose should be monitored in newborns under three months because their kidney function is not yet well developed to eliminate this medicine. It can cause serious adverse effects.

Side effects

  • Headache
  • Loose stools
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Joint pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Skin rash

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Amyclox Lb Ds capsule contains Amoxicillin. It is similar to penicillin in its antibacterial action against susceptible bacteria. It works during the stage of active multiplication of the bacteria. It acts by stopping the cell wall synthesis that causes the death of the bacteria. Some bacteria develop resistance to Amoxicillin. The resistance mechanism is primarily through enzymes called beta-lactamases produced by the bacteria. They break the structure of Amoxicillin, making it inactive.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • It is not recommended to take Probenecid medication and Amyclox Lb Ds capsules. Probenecid decreases the elimination of Amoxicillin by the kidneys. It may result in increased and prolonged blood levels of Amoxicillin.
  • Using Amyclox Lb Ds capsules while on oral anticoagulants or blood thinners like warfarin is not advised. They may cause prolongation of prothrombin time (test measures how long it takes for a clot to form in blood). It increases the risk of bleeding. Dose adjustment is necessary.
  • Using Allopurinol and Amyclox Lb Ds capsules at the same time can increase the incidence of rashes in patients receiving both medications as compared to patients receiving them alone. It is unknown whether this is due to Allopurinol or the high urea present in these patients.
  • Intamax O capsules lower the potency of oral contraceptive pills (combined estrogen and progesterone contraceptive pills). It is advised to use other modes of contraception.
  • Using other types of antibiotics such as Chloramphenicol, macrolides, sulfonamides, and tetracyclines may interfere with the antibacterial effects of Amyclox Lb Ds capsules.

Interactions with food items

  • There is no information available on the interaction of food with Amyclox Lb Ds capsule.
