Medical Description
Alprax Sr Tablet is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of anxiety, panic disorders and anxiety related to depression. Anxiety or panic attacks occur due to overexcitation of the neurons (fundamental unit of the brain and nervous system). Alprax Sr Tab reduce the feelings of worry and nervousness in patients with anxiety. It further produces a feeling of relaxation, calmness and induces sleep.
Alprax Sr Tablet contains Alprazolam as their active ingredient. Alprazolam belongs to a specific class of medicines called benzodiazepines. This class of drugs works by balancing the chemical substances in the brain that slows down the brain activity and relaxes the overworked nervous system.
Alprax Sr Tablet should be taken in dosage and duration as advised by your doctor. There are also many side effects associated with this medicine, so it is advised to take it after the doctor’s consultation and dosage must be carefully monitored. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can cause clinical worsening of your condition or may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Contraindications
- If you are allergic to any component of the Alprax Sr Tablet
- If you are experiencing sudden mood changes or suicidal ideation
- If you have angle-closure glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
- If you have liver impairment
- If you have kidney problems
- If you have any history of drug or alcohol addiction
- If you are taking antidepressants or narcotic or opioid pain relievers
- If you have respiratory problems like sleep apnea or asthma, etc

Directions for Use
- Take Alprax Sr Tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor
- Take this medication on a regular schedule preferably at the same time every day
- Take the Tablet as a whole with a full glass of water. Do not break/crush the tablet or chew this medicine
- You can take the Alprax Sr Tablet before or after consuming food or as prescribed by your doctor
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage as it can lead to overdose
- Do not stop using it abruptly, as it may lead to withdrawal symptoms
- Do not take if the package has been opened
Storage and disposal
Store Alprax Sr Tablet at room temperature in a cool and dry area, away from sunlight. Keep the medication away from children and pet animals in a closed or locked cabinet. Do not remove the medicine from its packing. Store it within its original packaging.
Disposal- Do not flush medicines down into the toilet or throw them into the dustbin unless instructed to do so. Medicines disposed of in this manner may pollute or contaminate the environment. Properly dispose of this product when it is expired or no longer required.
Dosage
Overdose
Alprax Sr Tablet overdose can cause symptoms like drowsiness, problems with coordination, confusion, difficulty speaking, yellowing of eyes and skin (due to liver failure), loss of consciousness and seizures. If you overdose on this medicine and experience any of these symptoms, immediately seek emergency medical treatment from a nearby hospital.
Missed a Dose
Missed doses of Alprax Sr Tablet should be taken right away unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case, you should skip the forgotten dose (rather than taking a double dose) and take the next scheduled dose or call your doctor for further instructions. Do not take both doses at once as it can lead to overdose.

How Does It Work?
Alprax Sr Tablet contains one active ingredient: Alprazolam 0.5 mg. Alprazolam binds to certain receptors in the brain, which increases the activity of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a natural chemical messenger in the brain. Increased effects of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), causes suppression of the excessive and abnormal electrical activity of the nerve cells in the brain. This results in feeling calmer and relaxed. However, this medicine does not cause any changes to the levels of GABA in the body.

Interactions with other medicines

Many medicines can interact with Alprax Sr Tablet, making it less effective or increase the side effects. This includes:
- Interaction with Antidepressants or mood-elevating medicines like fluoxetine and desipramine can cause increased side effects
- Interaction with oral contraceptives or birth control pills can reduce its effectiveness
- Interaction with antihistamines (allergy medicines), opioid painkillers, sleeping pills, etc, can increase drowsiness and fatigue
- Interaction with antifungal medications like itraconazole and ketoconazole can reduce the effects of it
- Supplement St. John’s wort can also interact with Alprax Sr Tablet"
