Molecule Description
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is an essential water-soluble vitamin involved in numerous metabolic processes, particularly the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. It plays a crucial role in the formation of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and GABA, which support normal brain function, mood regulation, and healthy sleep patterns. Vitamin B6 is also necessary for the production of haemoglobin, the component of red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body, and it supports proper immune function by aiding in antibody formation. Deficiency of Vitamin B6 can lead to symptoms such as irritability, depression, peripheral nerve problems, anaemia, seizures (especially in infants), and skin changes like dermatitis or cracks around the mouth. It may be prescribed for conditions such as anaemia due to deficiency, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, certain nerve-related disorders, homocystinuria, and to support overall metabolic health. It should be taken under medical supervision, as excessive or long-term high doses may cause nerve damage or sensory disturbances.
