Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Diethylstilbestrol is a nonsteroidal synthetic oestrogen that has similar effects to natural oestrogens produced in the body. It works by interacting with the oestrogen receptors, which are present in the female reproductive tract, hypothalamus (part of the brain), mammary glands (breast tissue) and the pituitary (part of the brain). In the case of prostate cancer, it works by decreasing the production of testosterone.
