Mode of Action

- The parasite also has its metabolic process, growth and multiplication. Diethylcarbamazine alters the metabolic process in the filarial cells, which makes them more prone to killing by the human defence system. Thus it helps in killing the parasite and eradicate the infection.
- The killing of filarial cell releases certain chemicals (histamine), which produces allergic symptoms like skin redness, itching, swelling and watering from the eyes. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistaminic medicine, which blocks the effect of histamine and relieves the allergic symptoms associated with it.
