Molecule Description

It is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of bacterial infections. It belongs to a collection of antibiotics referred to as Cephalosporins.

Uses of Cefpodoxime

This medicine is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs), pneumonia, gonorrhea, and infections of the skin, ear, sinuses, throat, tonsils and urinary tract.

Contraindications of Cefpodoxime

When should one not use Cefpodoxime

  • If you are allergic to Cefpodoxime
  • It is not to be involved in conditions such as Clostridium Difficile Colitis and abnormal liver function tests

Can I take Cefpodoxime during pregnancy?
It should not be used in pregnancy unless considered essential by your physician.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Cefpodoxime while breastfeeding?
This medicine passes into human milk in low quantities. It is probably safe to breastfeed but watch for diarrhea in the baby.


Can I drive if I have consumed Cefpodoxime?
This medicine can cause side effects like confusion and being less alert. If you experience any of these, do not drive any vehicle.


Can I consume alcohol with Cefpodoxime?
No known interaction.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • If you get persistent diarrhea
  • Complete the course of the antibiotic even if you are feeling better after a few doses
  • Not completing the course of antibiotics can lead to resistance

You are under prescription of any antacids like Cimetidine, Ranitidine, etc. because they decrease the absorption of the medicine.

Dosage of Cefpodoxime


Seek emergency medical care if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, nausea, seizures, and vomiting.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose & do not intake an extra dose of medicine to compensate for the missed dose.
