Amlexanox is useful in mouth ulcers, that are caused due to allergy or increased sensitivity to any substances such as food, coffee, tea, any drinks, weak immune system, any foreign objects such as braces etc. resulting in small, but painful ulcers (aphthous ulcers), which cause discomfort while eating or drinking.This medicine acts by suppressing the over-reactivity of the immune system and thus neutralizing the triggering factor. Amlexanox is commonly used as a topical cream for mouth ulcers.Other available forms include adhesive tablets that can be kept in the mouth.In some countries like Japan, Amlexanox is also used to treat asthma and running nose and used in tablet or injection forms.Amlexanox has proven efficacy in reducing the size of the mouth ulcers, pain and prevents them from reappearing. In some countries, it is the only approved medicine to treat these kinds of mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers).

Maintain good oral hygiene when you are affected by aphthous ulcers. If you cannot use a toothbrush, you may use mild mouthwashes with lukewarm water (with or without salt) regularly.You may apply it multiple times in a day after breakfast, lunch, dinner, and at bedtime, as directed by your doctor.Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying Amlexanox. You can take the cream on your finger and apply to the affected areas. Consult your doctor if you don’t see an expected improvement in 10 days.Keep the medicine away from your eyes.
