Medical Description

Tenlimac M is a combination of two medicines, namely teneligliptin and metformin hydrochloride. The combination helps control the sugar level in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitius in which a single medicine may not be effective.

Uses

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Contraindications

  • Kidney problems
  • Type 1 diabetic patients
  • Hypersensitivity to teneligliptin or any other ingredient of the medicine
  • Heart or liver failure
  • Severe infection
  • Severe ketosis
  • Metabolic acidosis
  • History of bowel obstruction
  • History of abdominal surgery surgery
  • Severe trauma
  • Diabetic coma or history of diabetic coma

Directions for Use

The dosage of Tenlimac M is based on the advice of your physician. Do not crush, break or chew the tablet. Take it whole with a glass of water.

Storage and disposal

Store at Store at 25 degrees Celsius. Do not store under direct sunlight or heat or moisture. Keep away from children. Dispose as per directions of your pharmacist, do not flush in drain.

In case of overdose, reach the nearest doctor or hospital immediately to use supportive measures such as removal of the medicine that is unabsorbed from the bowels.

Missed a Dose

Try not to skip any dose, if missed, take the missed dose when you remember this. If it is time near to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose.

How Does It Work?

Teneligliptin works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme from producing DPP-4 protein. DPP-4 enzyme degrades incretins, a group of hormones that slows down the production of glucose, increasing the level of insulin. Metformin helps your body to tolerate the insulin that your body produces, reduces the sugar that your liver produces, therefore, decreases the sugar amount your intestines absorb.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Furosemide increases the concentration of metformin in plasma and blood. Metformin decreases the AUC and Cmax of furosemide
  • Nifedipine enhances the metformin absorption
  • Metformin may cause suboptimal absorption of oral vitamin B12
  • The urine and blood glucose of patient needs to be monitored when taking Danazol with Tenlimac M
  • Cationic medicines e.g, amiloride, digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, ranitidine, or vancomycin, may decrease metformin excretion from kidneys and cause lactic acidosis
  • Tenlimac M should be used with caution with medicines that enhance the blood glucose lowering effect e.g., β blockers, MAO inhibitors
  • Tenlimac M should be used carefully with medicines that lower the blood glucose lowering effect like steroids, thyroid hormones, etc
